Boeing's Test and Evaluation (BT&E) Global Engineering & Operations (GEO) organization is seeking an **Aero and Environmental Lab Test Design Manager** to join our team in **Berkeley, Missouri** .
The Design Manager is a role within the GEO Midwest organization that leads a team of design and manufacturing engineers that complete the design and fabrication liaison portion of the lab test work statement accomplished through the Aero Test and Earth Environmental Test capabilities. Efforts represent a wide variety of research and production programs primarily in support of Boeing Defense & Space (BDS), but can also include Boeing Research & Technology (BR&T) and non-Boeing test work statement. The focus of the team is to provide services that include test article design, test article adaptation and support structure design, lab facility interface design, fabrication sourcing & coordination, strength analysis, electrical system design (interface/control/instrumentation/etc.), and check-out. The team works in partnership with the lab capabilities to provide the designs and hardware needed to complete high-quality, efficient, and cost-effective testing for all business partners and stakeholders.
The Midwest Earth Environmental labs support testing across a breadth of requirements including vibrational/structural dynamics, acoustic, airflow systems, fuel flow systems, high temperature flow impingement and environmental control. Test hardware design needs run the spectrum from mounting fixtures to aircraft sub-assemblies and everything in between, including test instrumentation. The Midwest Aero Test team supports wind tunnel testing across a broad variety of test types including aero performance, stability & control, loads, and many more. Testing is conducted at the Polysonic Wind Tunnel (in St. Louis) and other facilities inside and outside of Boeing. Test hardware design needs include the fabrication of sub-scale wind tunnel models and associated support hardware & instrumentation.
The successful candidate will have experience in test & evaluation engineering with a high aptitude for leadership and execution. Experience with lab/ground test and design engineering are desired for this position. Background in fabrication approaches and techniques is also desired.
**Position Responsibilities:**
+ Leads the team in providing the designs and test hardware needed to achieve test requirements accomplished by the Aero Test and Earth Environmental Test capabilities
+ Manages employees performing engineering and technical activities in the areas of test and evaluation engineering
+ Oversees design statement of work, assigns resources, and supports requirements synthesis
+ Leads work forecast integration, planning, and department budget development/execution
+ Assures a solid interface with lab test teams, test program management, and program personnel, including early engagement with test work statement
+ Encourages, motivates, and inspires individuals and the team
+ Facilitates best practice documentation, design practice authorship, knowledge sharing, RAA development, and robust design reviews
+ Develops and grows skill base across the team by strategic hiring, individual development, and knowledge sharing
+ Facilitates innovation and/or special project opportunities
+ Collaborates with managers across the organization and test value streams to lead work placement, resource sharing, and development opportunities
+ Develops and executes project and process plans, implements policies and procedures and sets operational goals
+ Acquires resources for projects and processes, provides technical management of suppliers and leads process improvements
+ Develops and strengthens relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports
+ Provides status to program business partners, test program management, and leadership
+ Provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes
+ Facilitates collaboration with Boeing fabrication shops and additive manufacturing resources
**This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.**
**This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.** An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
**Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):**
+ Bachelors Degree or higher in engineering
+ 5+ years of engineering experience
+ 3+ years of experience in technical leadership
+ 3+ years of experience leading or managing a team
**Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):**
+ Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance
+ Experience in test & evaluation engineering
+ Experience with hardware design
+ Experience in military program support
+ Experience with fabrication approaches and techniques
+ Excellent communication skills
