The Underwriting Consulting Director of the UW Excellence Technical Services team has advanced technical underwriting skills and is recognized as a technical expert within the organization. The UW Consulting Director acts as a technical subject matter expert and coach and is accountable for advancing the Underwriting skill set across all market segments and products, with a focus on National Accounts Provides a leading role in the analysis and/or handling of complex situations with increased focus on client and company objectives augmented by his/her underwriting and business expertise.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conducts case reviews for select NAO size cases prior to release based on identified criteria and to identify opportunities for improvement

  • Reviews NAO cases post release to assess underwriting accuracy and consistency, compliance with product offerings, policy and regulatory requirements as well as underwriting judgment and alignment with pricing strategies.

  • Improves bench strength of staff through coaching, development and implementation of training and development strategies, focused on continuous development of more senior underwriters. Develops underwriters in the analysis and assessment of risk. Coaches underwriters through daily interactions.

  • Provides expert guidance and consultation on complex cases.

  • Collaborates with partners within and across functional lines to align team objectives with organizational initiatives. Frequent interaction with UW management, quality review, knowledge management and strategy teams.

  • Develops and supports the control environment.

  • Regularly evaluates work processes and tools with a focus on continuous improvement to achieve business objectives and makes recommended changes.

  • Evaluates complex group insurance and underwriting concepts and procedures and demonstrates the ability to translate them into concise and easy to understand guidelines, policies and procedures.

  • Provides strategic and consultative solutions, consistently making decisions based on the business portfolio, strategic plan, the competition and company policy and procedures. Seizes opportunities to support strategic goals.

  • Key contributor to the development of pricing strategy, multi- year forecasting and formula pricing adjustments

  • May lead cross functional projects or represent Underwriting as a subject matter expert.

  • May handle case work as needed

  • Supports the knowledge management team in the development and presentation of technical underwriting concepts in training sessions.

Qualifications:

  • Strong technical background in group insurance Life and/or Disability underwriting (10+ years)

  • Ability to understand complex case characteristics, which may include but not limited to participating cases, non-standard provisions, funding and reinsurance arrangements.

  • Skilled at interpreting and communicating financial business drivers (10+ years)

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills

  • Strong leadership skills to influence culture and drive desired outcomes

  • Demonstrated passion for talent excellence

*Note: Prudential is required by Colorado law to include the salary range for this role when hiring a Colorado resident.

Salary range specific to Colorado: ($120,300 - $162,700) + discretionary incentive bonus + benefits. Eligibility to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program is subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance. In addition, employees are eligible for standard benefits package including paid time off, medical, dental and retirement.
