Job Summary
The overall purpose of this position is to advocate and implement digital experience and accessibility
solutions across the IEEE digital presence including IEEE.org. The incumbent in this position is primarily
responsible for oversight of accessibility, functionality, and interaction design functions within the
Experience Design Team. This technologically savvy knowledge worker independently seeks out
technology solutions to business challenges from a user experience and accessibility perspective. The
role typically works in the Experience Design Team with a direct supervisor (TBD) and can potentially
have one direct report. This position works under low to moderate supervision.
Key Responsibilities
Site development and/or technical solution development for desktop and responsive sites.
Oversight, identification, troubleshooting, and/or coding of advanced functionality in AEM CMS for improved user experience on IEEE.org, with capability to build experiences as needed.
Lead content enhancements and development for key IEEE program pages on IEEE.org and other websites by assisting with content publishing, development, and monitoring as needed.
Primarily responsible for AEM CMS, Wufoo form handler, and accessibility related enhancements for IEEE.org and key IEEE websites.
Work closely with the members of the IEEE Experience Design team, IT team developers, and/or vendors to identify digital user experience solutions.
Management and distribution of AEM and/or WordPress templates and functionality along with Digital Solutions Specialist.
Performing usability and accessibility evaluations on websites and apps as needed; monitor evaluations provided by vendors; provide recommendations for content and feature enhancements or additions based on findings along with Digital Solutions Specialist.
Interface with site owners to communicate changes and support implementation as needed.
Create, maintain, and manage forms on IEEE.org and Brand Experience website using Wufoo and/or similar form handler tools. Work with stakeholders to maintain form quality and user experience including coding, email delivery, accuracy, and/or data quality as needed.
Work with Wufoo, Marketo, and/or Google Forms on a regular basis and learn/research other form handlers as needed.
Actively research and/or coordinate digital best practices, including: user experience principles, accessibility standards, browser and device capability, CMS, and maintenance of governance guidelines and testing across multiple devices to inform IEEE Digital Style Guide updates as well as creation of new resources for IEEE site managers.
Creating and managing training offerings for site managers to increase compliance with IEEE guidelines via presentations, recordings, and/or newsletter articles.
Support Brand Experience Bulletin content generation and execution, including programming and interfacing with the team on proofing and content subject matter.
Creating tools and resources to support IEEE site managers and IEEE.org contributors to achieve optimal user experience via the IEEE Virtual UX Lab.
Translation of user feedback from various sources to inform digital updates to IEEE.org and other IEEE digital experiences across the organization.
Management of WordPress template distribution, updates, and governance by working with volunteer and staff site managers to create cohesive digital experiences for new and updated IEEE sites along with Digital Solutions Specialist.
Acts as first line of support on IEEE website template-related questions and issue resolution, saving budget where possible if adjustments or enhancements can be made in-house.
Assist in managing the digital presence database, Siteimprove, and Webmaster Tools to aid IEEE digital governance.
Maintain website guidelines, website governance/management documentation and website retention policies, advocating for governance adherence in all interactions.
Assist with the facilitation of A/B testing, surveys, and other research as needed.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues/errors for external and internal customers and escalating to appropriate technical or management staff.
Work closely with web developers to ensure that concepts are implemented according to requirements and are user tested when necessary.
Create and/or utilize project management framework (Ex: using TeamWork or similar tools) to manage and maintain workflow of requests.
Education
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience computer science, web development, interaction design, software engineering, or another related field is required Req
Work Experience
4-7 years At least 6 years of experience Req
Demonstrated experience with content management tools, particularly AEM, WordPress, and Joomla is required Req
Work experience in web/internet development, Information Technology, Human-Computer Interaction or another web production related field is required Demonstrated experience with Javascript, HTML, XHTML, XML, Dreamweaver, and CSS or other programming languages is required Req
Some knowledge and experience with using design tools and applications, including Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and/or Illustrator, Moqups, Balsamiq, or similar is preferred
Licenses and Certifications
Completed, in progress, or willingness to pursue further web or digital marketing-related certification Req
Skills and Requirements
Strong understanding of WCAG2.0/WCAG2.1/WCAG2.x accessibility standards and best practices; understanding of best practices in tables, forms, and image design as it relates to user experience and accessibility.
Proficient with customizing AEM and WordPress templates, using/updating plugins, and have site architecture development experience.
Proficiency with form handlers such as Wufoo, Marketo forms, Adobe, and/or Google Forms.
Proficiency with multimedia creation including videos (using tools like Dreamweaver, Camtasia, SnagIt, etc.).
Proficient in understanding of internet architecture, content management systems, quality assurance procedures, digital governance, SEO, form design, and web development/programming tools.
Strong ability to learn/adapt to new web technologies and CMS solutions.
Strong detail orientation and attention to accuracy and consistency.
Strong personal project and time management skills; ability to manage multiple, diverse projects simultaneously in complex environments.
Strong critical thinking, oral, and written communication skills.
Must have a proven track record of delivering results and be a self-starter.
Ability to strongly advocate for the user during all phases of the site design and development process.
Excellent time management and work prioritization skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with team members, other IEEE partners, vendors, and contractors in order to achieve goals.
Able to work off-site/remotely with proficiency and efficiency when required.
Proficiency with Google and Microsoft Office applications.
Familiarity with using Google applications for email and document management is a plus.
Familiarity with remote meeting tools such as WebEx, Google Meet is a plus.
Understanding of IEEE is a plus.
