Job Description



The Autonomy and Navigation Technology (ANT) Center located at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) at Wright-Patterson AFB, is looking for a motivated and talented individual to serve as an IT Administrator and Software Developer.





Essential Job Responsibilities



The IT Administrator/Software Developer will be a key member of the research staff supporting ANT Center faculty and graduate students to support and drive the software and tooling of the Centers cutting-edge research and development projects. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:



+ IT Administrator


+ Manage AWS resources to include sftp, GitLab, GitLab Runners, Mattermost, and OpenProject servers


+ Update servers as necessary to include security updates and new features. This includes the underlying servers OS as well as the application like GitLab


+ User management of users including adding/dropping users




+ Manage a local cluster of Linux servers


+ Ensure computer software is up to date


+ Correct any software/hardware issues as they arise


+ Manage/maintain the custom Kubernetes application (ACE Hub) to access the servers


+ Add/remove users to ACE Hub as necessary






+ Software Developer


+ Design, develop, and test computer software in support of research requirements


+ Work with faculty, students and research engineers to develop new algorithms and tooling that support the various autonomy and advanced navigation research projects


+ Integrate various technologies, such as commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and government off-the-shelf (GOTS) hardware and software, to support specific research needs


+ Reviews and tests software components for adherence to the design requirements and documents test results




+ US Citizen, with active Secret clearance or an ability to obtain one






Minimum Qualifications



The successful candidate will have graduated from a major university or college with at least a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or closely related field, with a 3.0 GPA or higher. The applicants experience level will decide the level of the position and salary level; the position is flexible and can support entry-level to senior candidates. The candidate must be a self-sufficient and an independent professional.





Preferred Requirements



Preferred Skills and Experience



+ Experience in software design, development, coding, testing and debugging


+ Solid foundation in object-oriented design, programming, and requirements development


+ Experience in a variety of programming languages, but strong in Python, C++, and C.


+ Experience with tools such as git, ssh, sftp, GitLab, Mattermost, Docker, Kubernetes. Preference to experience on both the user and admin side of GitLab and Mattermost.


+ Experience with AWS Cloud resources such as creating new resources and setting resource configuration to include security best practices


+ Experience with Linux Admin functions such as installing/configuring Linux Servers (command line based). Requires both software and hardware experience.


+ Ability to work independently and as a team member


+ The candidate should demonstrate a hands-on approach to problem-solving and must be willing to actively participate in the evaluation of algorithm and system performance
