General Summary:



The internal reporting manager is responsible for managing and supporting the procedures surrounding the internal distribution of all periodic financial statements. You will be responsible for preparing the financial reports/dashboards for Mutual of America and each of its subsidiaries, verifying their accuracy and compliance with company regulations, professional standards and SEC and GAAP reporting guidelines, and collaborating with staff to develop new meaningful analyses that support company-wide reporting initiatives. As the manager, you will be expected to actively participate in process improvement initiatives including automation and efficiency projects to further enhance the companys internal/external reporting capabilities. You will have ample exposure to the Senior Leadership team, including the CEO and CFO.



Essential Functions / Principal Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Responsible for the preparation and distribution of monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reporting packages (as well as any other relevant deliverables) for review by senior-level management and the companys board of directors. This includes responding to ad-hoc reporting and financial analysis requests from the leadership team to develop or further refine financial reporting formats to improve reporting efficiency and relevance.



  • Assist and oversee the coordination of key strategic initiatives for Internal Financial Reporting department, including (but not limited to) developing/updating project plans, organizing project meetings, monitoring task assignments, and preparing project dashboards/status reports to present to senior management. Projects may include process improvement initiatives related automation, improving process workflows, centralizing data repositories for ease of reporting and/or compiling supporting documentation to be presented to the Board and/or Regulatory body.



  • Provide support to the 2nd Vice President of Internal Financial Reporting department by providing continuous assessment of the financial close process. This includes identifying ways to re-engineer the process to reduce the overall time it takes to close the financial period.



  • Develop and maintain expert knowledge and utilization of business intelligence solutions used by company (i.e. NetSuite general ledger, Oracle Planning).



  • Perform analysis, research and/or conduct projects as requested by Corporate Finance management.



  • Drive process improvements related to the companys financial reporting



Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:



  • BS/BA Degree in accounting or finance (on track for CPA or CFA is preferred)



  • Working experience and knowledge of life and annuity insurance industry, products, and business processes is preferred



  • Expert knowledge of MS business tools (Access / Excel / Word / PowerPoint / Visio / SharePoint)



  • Strong understanding of ERP systems (plus if it is Oracle Planning or NetSuite)



  • Highly proficient in U.S. GAAP and SEC statutory reporting



  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills



  • Strong oral and written communication skills



  • Ability to execute and follow-through to completion



  • Ability to thrive in unstructured, entrepreneurial type of environment



  • Prior experience in a FP&A role
