* Job Summary: * The * Database Administrator II * is responsible for installing, configuring, upgrading, administering, monitoring and maintaining physical databases to keep them in a usable state, ensuring they are available and accurate at all required times. The Database Administrator is involved in database and repository design, managing the availability of databases to agreed operating levels, installing database software, and providing database support. * Primary Responsibilities: * * Vision and Direction * * Develops, documents, communicates, and enforces database standards, policies, and procedures for standardizing database assets. * Design and Builds * * Designs and builds new database solutions based on requirements from project initiatives. * Implements data models and database designs into physical databases. * Availability & Operating Level Management * * Performs root cause analysis, resolves problems and recommends solutions. * Maintains and performs preventative database maintenance to provide availability, capacity, integrity, and security against operating level agreements. * Establishes guidelines and standards for capacity management review and establishes standards for database operations. * Monitors and plans capacity of all databases to plan for future growth. * Analyzes and optimizes database performance. * System Installation/ Decommissioning * * Installs and maintains database software. * Manages database configuration including installing and upgrading database and applying patches. * Conducts multiple levels of testing prior to release of new and upgrades systems, products or services. * Support * * Ensures that backup and recovery plans are tested regularly and backup and recovery procedures are implemented. * Performs business continuity and disaster recovery testing. * Develops automation scripts and programs to streamline manual operations and reduce manpower requirement in maintenance and monitoring activities. * Performs troubleshooting and issue resolution and escalate issues to appropriate 3rd party vendor if needed. * Provides technical support and consultation to colleagues and customers as needed. * Qualifications: * * Bachelors (Masters may be preferred in some areas) degree in Computer Science degree or related field or equivalent combination of industry related professional experience and education * Working experience with UNIX and shell scripts * 2+ years of experience * Working experience in installing, configuring, administering, and tuning database technologies * Working experience writing PL/SQL triggers and/or procedures * Working experience with configuring and managing advanced queues * Working experience configuring and managing replication * Working experience with stored procedures, triggers, functions, packages, partitioning, streams and indexes To be employed in this role, youll need to clear a pre-employment background check and drug test.
