Job Description
Director of Business Line Finance - SVB Private
As a Director of Business Line Finance at Silicon Valley Bank, you will work for the bank of the innovation economy. You will have the opportunity to support SVB Private Bank and Wealth Management business to drive strategic business direction that leads to long term, sustainable performance and enables innovative businesses to bring about the next big thing.
You will identify, analyze, and communicate key financial observations. You will optimize business performance by managing key initiatives, reporting on financial performance, and forecasting future financial results. You will combine sophisticated analytical methodologies, accurate reporting, and financial discipline to ensure that the firm can navigate a dynamic market environment, while enabling clients to build the companies of the future.
This role will report directly to the Private Bank CFO, and is well suited to a candidate who enjoys working in a fast paced, iterative environment. A successful candidate will be a self-driven professional who enjoys serving as a strategic partner to the business, has a continual growth mindset, and maintains a high performance expectation for themselves and their team.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
Budgeting and Forecasting:
Participate in group's annual Budget and Quarterly Forecasting Process, including timeline management, business partner interaction, and assumption gathering
Maintain driver-based models to align financial projections with key drivers
Perform detailed validation to ensure that trends are reasonable and well understood, and that system data aligns with expectations
Produce summary materials to review and communicate Budget and Forecast values, assumptions, and risk and opportunities
Engage in long-range strategic planning cycles as needed
Manage live real-time view of monthly financial outlook
Management Reporting/Month-end close:
Establish monthly cadence with business partners around month-end close and reporting activities
Include clear and concise executive level summaries with all communication
Ensure standard monthly reporting contains detailed financial results as well as a formal linkage to key performance drivers, to hold SVB Private leaders accountable for results
Conduct regular in-person meetings with business partners to review financial results and latest expected outlook
Coordinate with accounting, finance support, and business partners to ensure that monthly accruals are properly captured and validated
P&L Management:
Identify potential financial risks and work with business partners to find solutions to stay on target
Manage Finance approval process for requested FTE and professional services
Partner with HR team to formalize headcount capacity needs for the group
Analysis and Other:
Provide communication channel for any other topics that need to be surfaced between SVB Private function and Corporate Finance Org
Ensure organizational and account hierarchies are maintained and reflected in all reporting
Provide Ad-hoc analysis and formal business case support as needed
Partner with business counterparts, FP&A partners, and technology teams for consistent process improvement
Qualifications:
10+ years of finance experience, preferably in Financial Services
Understanding of financial statements, accounting procedures, internal and external reporting and variance analysis
Funds Transfer Pricing (FTP) experience strongly preferred
Experience with budgeting and forecast, financial reporting, and ad-hoc analytical support
Ability to complete assigned responsibilities as a team and engage with business partners with a friendly, service-oriented attitude
Bachelor's Degree or higher in a quantitative discipline
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required for model development and executive level delivery
Working knowledge of PowerPoint and Word
Ability to work effectively in a complex work environment, including ability to interact well with a wide variety of groups (FP&A, Accounting, Operations, Business Partners, Treasury, and Risk)
Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence key stakeholders and speak about financials in an accessible style
