**Job Description**
Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.
This position also requires knowledge of 13.8 kV Switchboards, 450 V Load Centers, 13.8 kV Transformers, RLARs, LARs, Ethernet switches, and Networks.
**Basic Qualifications**
Bachelors degree and 2 years experience OR Masters degree and 0 years experience OR PDP apprentice certificate and 1 year of engineering experience. Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelors Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
**Preferred Qualifications**
Strong communication, organizational and computer skills are required to collaborate with other engineering departments to identify component, system and process improvements. Most assignments require the regular use of ingenuity and innovation.
Have the ability to conduct research on new materials of special interest to a power generation and distribution system. Performs technical auditing and investigation of engineering design products and processes. Experience with electrical drawings, diagrams, evaluating electrical standards, electrical relay protection settings, programming electrical components, lab testing, the use of electrical test equipment, developing Ships Force Training, developing letters to the customer, and all Microsoft Office products. This position also requires knowledge of 13.8 kV Switchboards, 450 V Load Centers, 13.8 kV Transformers, RLARs, LARs, Ethernet switches, and Networks.
