**Job Description**


This position is for an experienced engineer to lead the carrier inactivation and disposal planning efforts for the Reactor Plant Planning Yard. This position will lead a team of engineers to fulfill various tasking efforts to include: calculations of residual water/system drain down plan, review and revise inactivation guidelines, end of life inspections, layup instructions, equipment reutilization, and collaborate with all stakeholders (internal and external) for carrier inactivation and disposal planning.


Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.


**Basic Qualifications**


9 Years with Bachelors in Science; 7 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD.- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelors Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.


**Preferred Qualifications**


Senior Mechanical Engineer with reactor plant fluids system experience. CVN68 Class plant operations/nuclear test experience is a plus. Familiarity with the 68 Class refueling overhaul planning and execution process is also desirable. The role requires strong project management, communications, writing, and organization skills. The candidate must be a self-starter, highly motivated and be able to execute tasking with minimal supervision. In addition, the candidate must be able to develop technical solutions to complex problems that require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity.


Experience with presentations and meeting facilitation is highly desirable.
