Job Description
The BUY Value stream at John Hancock/Manulife focuses on making life insurance easier to sell for intermediaries and easier to buy for consumers by making the buy journey digital, intuitive, faster, and less invasive. We are currently seeking a Full Stack Software Engineer to join us in building new integrations and providing production support.
In this role, the work will include working with various squads. The ideal candidate will combine their engineering and problem-solving background with strong interpersonal skills to ensure that the processes and systems are constantly evolving to address business needs in a fast-moving and collaborative environment.
What will you do?
Provide day to day support for eApp submissions including root cause analysis for persistent issues
Build new integrations with external business partners
Align with Digital Integration, Digital Adoption and Capabilities squads on any changes and work that may require coordination of effort
Pair program with other full stack engineers to learn, coach, and mentor
Support QA testing and provide guidance during user acceptance testing
What you bring?
Familiarity with agile and DevOps principles, test-driven development, continuous integration, and other approaches to accelerate the delivery of new features
Understanding of software development lifecycle
Familiar with modern software architectures and API-driven development and scripting languages
Prioritizes efficient code production by using open-source frameworks and patterns
Demonstrates all core skills, and good interpersonal skills for the role
Good working and background knowledge of area of practice
Participates in functional demos utilizing new tech; designs own control structures
Writes clear, readable and maintainable code, takes ownership of the quality and usability of code
Understands how to find and reuse patterns and platforms in the Manulife ecosystem and the broader community
Experience with technologies such as: React, React Native, Node, Angular, JQuery
Experience with technologies such as: Javascript, Python, Scala or Java
Good API skills (technologies such as Express/Node, GraphQL/Relay, Flask, Jersey, Java Spring REST or WebApi2)
Collaborative attitude, willingness to work with team members; able to coach, participate in code reviews, share skills and methods
Constantly learns from both success and failure
Good organizational and problem-solving abilities that enable you to manage through creative abrasion
Good verbal and written communication; effectively articulates technical vision, possibilities, and outcomes
Good interpersonal skills to convey issues and work to both technology and business stakeholders
