The Information Technology Department of Arnold & Porter has an opening for an Instructional Design/Training Manager in the New York or Washington, DC office.  The Manager is responsible for designing comprehensive learning programs that will enhance the technology user’s ability to work with the various information technologies, systems, and applications that are used to support the Firm and its clients. The Manager will create the design and oversee the development of internal and external curriculum including eLearning, blended learning, virtual training, webinars, online and informal learning solutions using instructional systems design principles and guidelines. The Manager is responsible for the oversight of quality and alignment of all training curriculum content to ensure effectiveness and compliance as well as supervising the IT training team.

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

 

  • Designing and creating engaging learning experiences that include eLearning programs, videos, digital and paper based training, and virtual instructor-led materials for all operations training programs including new hire and new solutions, feature, and service releases that enable attorneys and staff to perform work tasks an efficient manner.

  • Working closely with the training staff, firm management and leadership, HR, Practice Groups, IT, and other stakeholders to conduct front-end training needs assessments to determine training solutions and/or make recommendations to business process improvement or metrics that align with the firm’s strategic goals.

  • Monitoring Instructional Design deliverables to project scope and requirements and serving as a strategic instructional development resource to the trainers throughout the firm.

  • Designing and participating in the implementation of all learning strategies including change management plan, pilot workshops and train-the-trainer of new initiative, refresher, HR training, and core IT offerings.

  • Working closely with representatives from the firms’ other offices to provide training materials and classes on a regular basis using various eLearning options.

  • Creating evaluation plans to measure the impact of training and sets guidelines for business impact and risk assessment evaluations.

  • Designing and coaching others to utilize a variety of data collection tools (interviews, surveys, focus groups, etc.) to determine most appropriate learning solution in needs analysis and/or to evaluate results.

  • Publishing a monthly training schedule with current course descriptions and prerequisites.

  • Working closely with the BRC, specifically the Firm Wide BRC Manager, BRC Coordinators, and the User Support Specialists, to determine standard document creation and editing techniques.  Using this knowledge to develop training courses that will ultimately result in standard document creation throughout the firm.

  • Working closely with the Manager, Infrastructure Services to develop cross training plans for the trainers and training assistant on the technical aspects of the computer system.

  • Working closely with the Manager, Infrastructure Services, Network Manager, or the Director of Enterprise Applications for planning, development, evaluation, and implementation of new applications and system enhancements.

  • Supervising floor support for major system changes, rollout of new software, system enhancements, and applications developed for the firm.

  • Monitoring the claiming and resolution of routed Help Desk tickets to the trainers and training assistant.

  • Working closely with the IT Services Manager to ensure preliminary training is provided to the Help Desk staff on system enhancements, new software, and applications developed for the firm.

  • Providing quality customer service to firm personnel and clients including direct end-user assistance in support of the firms’ Help Desk efforts.

  • Providing daily supervision and direction to the trainers and training assistant.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience in large scale learning design including blended solutions is required. 

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in assessment of business and learner needs and training design best practices to meet organizational metrics.

  • Four-year college degree preferred, equivalent experience considered.

  • Previous law firm employment preferred. Experience in eLearning (Captivate, Articulate, HTML etc.), video development, and virtual training development (Adobe Connect webinars, learning platforms, streaming channels).

  • Ability to work within a collaborative environment and within aggressive time frames.

  • Strong knowledge of adult learning principles.

  • Able to analyze complex business requirements and adopt new methods to develop materials, take preventative measures with projects, programs, and process designs to overcome potential barriers.

  • Knowledge of computer operating systems and general knowledge of applications commonly utilized in a law firm environment.

  • Must have exceptional judgment, demonstrate flexibility and professionalism.

  • Ability to lead effectively.

  • Use communication, analytical and conflict resolution skills to deliver results-oriented service.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills in a dynamic environment are a must.

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize while maintaining high attention to detail and quality.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. 

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

  • Ability to provide excellent customer service.
