Position Responsibilities
Assist the Electrical project lead with project technical design aspects including:
Design, calculation, specification and analysis of electrical systems (normal power, emergency power, lighting and lighting control, fire alarm, life safety, earthing and lightning protection systems)
Coordination of electrical system with other disciplines and consultants (architectural, structural, mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, civil, security, audio-visual, telecommunications, lighting, life safety, food service, vertical transportation, pool, landscape, etc.)
Development of engineering studies, narratives, reports and presentation material
Contributes to detailed preparation of design and construction documents and solutions to general engineering problems under the direct supervision of a more senior engineer.
Prepare BIM device layouts for electrical infrastructure, back of house lighting, lighting control, small power and receptacles, fire alarm, grounding, lightning protection, etc.
Prepare BIM single line diagrams, riser diagrams and schedules
Prepare BIM electrical room and closet equipment layouts.
Prepare BIM floor plan circuiting and develops BIM panelboard schedules
Coordinate M,P,FP equipment schedules
Incorporate individual design, calculation and coordination efforts into AutoCAD drawings and/or BIM model.
Assist with shop drawing review and RFI responses for general conformance with the electrical deliverables.
Assist in the preparation of punch lists and field observation reports.
Organize own work efforts by managing time and workload to meet project task deadlines and commitments with regular interaction and direction from project leaders.
Recommend improvements to SOM standards, electrical discipline standards and processes to improve quality, coordination and streamline production efforts.
Remain current on issues related to electrical design
Remain current on issues related to sustainable and green building design and energy saving and renewable technologies
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of an ABET accredited Bachelors Degree in Architectural Engineering or Electrical Engineering or advanced degree program.
Professional licensure process is in progress; LEED and WELL accreditation strongly preferred; successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE) is preferred.
Memberships and active participation in discipline specific professional organizations such as IEEE, CEE, etc. is preferred.
Demonstrate a solid understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals
Commitment to work within the integrated design team structure and introductory knowledge of corresponding interdisciplinary coordination workflow.
Familiarity with electrical related building code and energy code requirements including IBC, IECC, ASHRAE 90.1 and NFPA (NEC)
Demonstrates basic proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite
Awareness of systems evaluation programs such as PTW/ETAP, AGI32/Elum Tools and RETSCREEN/SAM and how analysis informs electrical design. Daylighting analysis experience is a plus.
