Laser Scan Surveyor
POWER Engineers, Inc. Facilities Division is seeking a Laser Scan Surveyor for our Laser Scanning group. Applicants must be motivated, self-driven, and experienced in terrestrial laser scanning and surveying. The position reports to and works directly with the Facilities Scan Department Manager and CAD Manager to integrate scanning into POWER projects and manage scan team project field surveys, hardware, servers, and software integrations.
Roles and Responsibilities
Software

+ Understand and familiarize yourself with all Autodesk and Bentley Design software used in the Facilities Division and how laser scan data can be incorporated with all tools

+ Understand Leica Cyclone REGISTER 360 and other software for registration/post-processing of collected terrestrial laser scanner field data.

+ Willing to learn and test other terrestrial laser scanner devices and registration software.

+ Use EdgeWise 3D and Leica CloudWorx for automated modeling of laser scan point cloud data

+ Understand, learn, and test other automated Scan to Model, Scan to BIM, and Scan to Mesh 3rd-Party applications

+ Leverage Autodesk ReCap Pro to edit, view, and unify laser scan point cloud data

+ Understand basic working relationships and workflow between all the Autodesk portfolio of software applications

+ Use Microsoft Office Suite and PDF editors such as Bluebeam Revu

Hardware

+ Maintain and develop POWER CAD/BIM laser scanning standards, processes, and procedures with the scan department

+ Understand and use Leica HDS Scanner and Survey equipment

+ Understand, learn and test other scanner hardware such as Riegal, Z+F, Leica, Trimble, Surphaser, and others

+ Understand scan data formats, data transfer rates, LAN/WAN connection speeds, and best practices in data handover, storage, and retention

+ Understand and use robotic total stations for survey control and site survey tie-in.

Management

+ Assist with Leica servers, server-side applications, data management, and regular updates

+ Assist with software and hardware technology evaluation

+ Budget for future scan technology, and software adoption in alignment with company goals

+ Contribute to the coordination and maintenance of scan data for projects, project teams, and clients

+ Assist the department in continually evaluating field survey practices, data registration, and data management for improvements

+ Integrate innovative techniques, processes, and new industry best practices with the team

+ Create and maintain standard operating guides with the department and the Facilities Division

Training

+ Provide Leica training to new scan technicians and survey staff

+ Learn and understand hardware, software, and best practices as yearly releases are deployed and updated

+ Attend conferences, seminars, and workshops for reality capture, laser scanning, and field data acquisition

+ Disseminate information from conferences/seminars/workshops to leadership and department staff

Project Work

+ Assist with developing laser scan proposals and scopes of work for new projects internally, as well as with contractors and AE Partners

+ Set up, edit, maintain and coordinate laser scan point cloud data for projects utilizing 2D and 3D Design and coordination applications

+ Conduct/self-preform field survey scanning and assist other scan survey technicians as needed for large projects

+ Work independently and in a team environment

+ Assist project teams with Scan to 2D, Scan to 3D, and Scan to BIM projects with applications such as EdgeWise 3D and Leica Cloudworx

Business Development

+ Assist with business development by understanding and selling 3D Reality Capture, laser scanning, and scan to BIM processes to new and existing clients

+ Promote POWER Engineers 3D Laser Scanning in conjunction with 3D Design and BIM processes internally

+ Assist with laser scanning proposals and marketing materials

Required Education/Experience

+ Scanning field experience with knowledge in multiple hardware platforms (such as Leica, FARO, Z+F)

+ Field surveying experience using robotic and reflectorless robotic total station

+ Proficient with scan registration software and associated add-ins such as Leica Cyclone, Leica Cyclone REGISTER 360 base and mobile for iPad, FARO SCENE, Trimble RealWorks

+ Proficient in Autodesk AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant3D, Civil 3D, Revit, Navisworks, Recap, MicroStation, BIM 360, Revit Server, and other design application add-ins

+ Proficient in Scan to BIM applications such as EdgeWise 3D, Leica Cloudworx, and native AutoCAD ribbon toolset for scan data

+ Ability to travel to job sites

+ Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 40 pounds

+ Ability to climb platforms, ladders, and roofs to perform surveys for projects

Desired Education/Experience

+ 5+ years of experience as a Scan Lead or Scan Field Technician

+ Associates degree or higher in a related field

+ Professional surveying licenses

+ Scan hardware training certifications

+ Familiarity with OSHA guidelines surrounding fall protection, confined spaces, incident rates
