Job Purpose

We've got a great opportunity for a Lead Tableau Developer to join our Data Services team. As a Lead Tableau Developer, you'll share knowledge and best practises in designing, developing and maintaining data products and services which align to UU's overall data and business strategy.

Job Accountabilities

  • Dashboard development and maintenance - You'll be able to understand, interpret and clarify user's requirements. Convert requirements into logical and physical data models which integrate with the existing landscape. Visualise data in interactive Tableau dashboards which meet users' expectations and requirements and provide ongoing support and maintenance for implemented dashboards.

  • Communications €“ You'll be responsible for coordinating efforts related to user enablement around communications, engagement, and support. Facilitating user to user connections, coordinating engagement events, promoting the use of support resources and evangelising the use of analytics. You will maintain and enhance the various best practises, training and support available to the UU Tableau community.

  • Problem resolution - You will learn how to resolve data problems such as issues with the Tableau server or specific data visualisations; implementing changes when source systems alter the way they advertise their data or making enhancements to existing data models. You will log, analyse and manage such problems and find solutions to meet the customer's satisfaction.

  • Server administration - You will work closely with the Tableau vendor to perform timely server and client upgrades, implement new features and ensure the sever remains compliant with UU data policies and regulations. You will ensure the security, resilience and performance of the server through understanding and supporting implementation of the server architecture and data governance policies.

  • License management €“ you'll manage the licenses related to Tableau such that the value is optimised and users and projects are satisfied.

  • Development lifecycle - You'll understand and learn how to follow an existing development lifecycle including collecting user requirements, design, development, testing, implementation, maintenance and enhancement.

  • Metadata management - You'll understand what metadata is and how to maintain various metadata repositories in order to support the organisation managing its data assets.


Knowledge and Skills

  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent professional qualificationin a relevant subject.

  • Strong numeric and analytic skills.

  • Extensive experience working delivering Business Intelligence solutions using ETL, OLAP Cube and data visualisation tools.

  • Strong working knowledge of SQL and Data Warehousing methodologies.

  • Extensive experience in using Tableau or similar software.

  • Experience supporting users and managing issues in an enterprise scale production environment

  • Ability to work in a team environment.

  • Experience in Installation, configuration and maintenance of Tableau, or equivalent, infrastructure.

  • Significant experience working in a data service environment developing Business Intelligence solutions.

  • Ability to organise personal time well.

  • Ability to work autonomously with a passion to learn new emerging technical skills and embrace new and better ways of working.

  • Experience working in projects using a variety of delivery approaches.
