Position Summary
Responsible for small to medium-size projects of moderate complexity within assigned life product lines. Develops new coverages and policy language as requested and maintains current policy language and contract language for policy and endorsement forms. Researches and monitors government legislation that impacts products and implements applicable changes. Works with administration partners to resolve compliance issues. Provides up-to-date product information for use in communication for Policyholders, Agents, internal business units and corporate literature.
The hiring manager will also consider candidates for Life Product Development Specialist I.Level of position offered will be based upon the depth and breadth of selected candidate's experience and qualifications.
Duties and Responsibilities
Researches, analyzes, develops and implements policy language of moderate complexity for existing and new products, to ensure that Erie Family Life insurance products and all related forms adhere to regulatory standards while maintaining and strengthening its competitive market position and supporting corporate initiatives. May assist with projects of a higher complexity under close supervision. Mentors less experienced specialists.
Prepares filings for life, annuity and Medicare Supplement products, policies, endorsements and rates for submission to state insurance departments. Uses System for Electronic Rate and Form Filing (SERFF) reports and other industry resources to improve filing process. Prepares responses to state insurance department objections to enable approval prior to implementation of product and rating changes. Prepares required exhibits and documentation.
Works with the marketing area to prepare all Long-Term Care and Medicare Supplement materials for filing. Prepares responses to state insurance department objections to enable approval prior to implementation of product and rating changes.
Assists in the management of the Medicare Supplement line through supporting internal, agent and vendor requirements, including the use of file transfers and other administrative duties.
Drafts information documents on Erie Family Life contract changes for review by appropriate business units and managers prior to distribution to Policyholders, Agents and internal customers. Maintains contact with Corporate Design throughout drafting process as necessary to ensure materials comply with company standards.
Analyzes and interprets insurance laws, regulations and court decisions to determine the effect on Erie Family Life products and procedures. Works in conjunction with Law, Underwriting, Compliance and Claims to determine the business impact of changes in these areas. Assists in developing plans to address the business impacts and implement the required changes.

Initiates and coordinates implementation of forms-related Project Service Requests with administration partners. Maintains contact with them throughout the process to ensure everything is implemented and handled according to Erie Family Life requirements.
In conjunction with senior project manager and life underwriting and product administration departments, ensures that EFL policies are issued correctly and in accordance with state approved filings and regulations. Identifies, recommends and assists in implementing process improvements.
Prepares responses and verifies documentation for state insurance department market conduct audits, claims, and compliance issues related to Erie Family Life products in conjunction with the Life Compliance department manager.
Maintains a record of all forms currently and previously with Erie Family Life and updates supplies as needed. Uses available software to automate data entry on forms available on ERIE website for Agents' use.
Assists Product Management and Life Operations with testing life insurance and annuity proposal software and administrative system functions. Maintains competitive information and performs other product research. Communicates results and identifies potential concerns where appropriate.
Maintains product support materials including manuals and web content
Assists in providing daily production reports for various product lines.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, risk management, insurance or related field, required; and two years' experience with insurance contract and compliance analysis, Law, Underwriting, Claims or related business unit with working knowledge of assigned lines of business required; or
Associate's degree and four years' experience with insurance contract and compliance analysis, Law, Underwriting, Claims, or related business unit with working knowledge of assigned lines of business required; or
High school diploma or GED and six years' experience with insurance contract and compliance analysis, Law, Underwriting, Claims, or related business unit with working knowledge of assigned lines of business, required.
