Engineering Manager
Position Overview
Siemens Rail Infrastructure seeks an Engineering Manager to support the Railroad Infrastructure R&D
team to introduce new products and support existing products. The ideal candidate possesses a solid
understanding of mechanical and/or electrical engineering including experience designing electrical
and/or electromechanical products and has experience managing a team of engineers.
This role requires a good communicator who can work independently as well as collaboratively in a
multidisciplinary team environment. A successful candidate must be comfortable with the application of
technical theories and concepts in development environments and have broad knowledge of mechanical
design concepts and structural analysis, printed circuit board design and limitations, and system
engineering. Successful candidates must be comfortable working in an environment with strict milestone
deadlines and balancing multiple priorities to ensure projects are completed on time.

their team to develop innovative solutions to realize cost savings, improve reliability, and increase
customer value.
Responsibilities
Manage a multidisciplinary team of engineers and professionals and their associated work
products (preliminary design, concept development, component selection, electrical/mechanical
integration, hardware design, schematic capture, drawing creation and release, and
manufacturing support) to meet Safety, Quality, Schedule, and Cost metrics
Support business goals of revenue and profit growth
Engage regularly with engineers, PCBA designers, and configuration management staff to create
mechanical and electrical products for railroad crossing and wayside applications
Provide functional leadership, employee development, training and mentoring. Establish and
track goals and objectives for staff, conduct employee performance reviews, and implement
employee development plans
Establish and maintain metrics that provide real-time visibility to measure, monitor, and control
process performance
Participate in development planning, design and analysis coordination, resource assignments and
execution
Present execution plans and track results in coordination with R&D Director
Generate and administer training plans in accordance with company standards
Interpret and apply processes and procedures that affect the engineering staff
Forecast staffing needs and coordinate with R&D Director to support business operations
Develop, implement, and support process improvements, tools and training to reduce the
Research and Development costs
Support internal and external customers and stakeholders
Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
Bachelor of Science in Engineering; Mechanical or Electrical preferred (or an equivalent
combination of education and experience)
3+ years of experience designing safety related products
3+ years of experience managing engineering team(s) in a fast paced, safety critical environment
Expertise in one of the following core competency areas: mechanical design, hardware (PCBA)
design, railroad signaling
Experience with Safety Related and/or Safety Critical system designs
Excellent oral and written communication, computer, documentation, and presentation skills
Ability to multi-task
Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively

Preferred Knowledge/Skills and Experience
5+ years of experience managing engineering teams in a fast paced, safety critical environment
3+ years of experience in the Railroad industry
Familiarity with applicable Railroad standards (AAR, AREMA, FRA, MUTCD, etc.)
Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Experience with Configuration Management process for drawing release
Experience with CAD solid modeling tools such as SolidWorks (preferred), Solid Edge, Siemens NX
Experience with Finite Element Analysis and/or computer-based simulation
Experience with IBM DOORS for requirements traceability
Experience with Infor PLM Discrete, Teamcenter or equivalent drawing configuration management suite
Knowledge of manufacturing best practices, including knowledge of machining, welding, sheet metal fabrication, assembly, PCB fabrication
