Job Description
Manager
SVB has attained the Large Financial Institution (LFI) Category 4 status due to rapid business growth which leads to additional regulatory reporting requirements by Prudential Standards. As a result, the Regulatory Assurance and Validation (RAV) quality assurance team is expanding to ensure existing and new regulatory reporting requirements are met with accuracy and timeliness.
Reporting to the Senior Manager in RAV, the Manager is responsible for leading assessments of risks and internal controls over external reporting according to regulatory requirements, including those under LFI. The role of Manager is to be a strong team leader within the RAV team in verifying risks inherent in the regulatory reporting process are appropriately identified; controls are designed appropriately to mitigate related risk and operating effectively. This new position in the team will utilize experiences in data lineage and analytics to help planning for quality assurance review and work closely with Regulatory Reporting, Treasury and leaders within the Financial Risk and Controls team to ensure regulatory reporting integrity. Lastly, the Manger role will help in drafting issues identified and add value by providing feedback for improving data accuracy through a balance of control enhancements and commercial effectiveness.
The Manager assists in the execution of planning and execution of control evaluation related to regulatory reporting, including control design, control operating effectiveness and effective challenges to safeguard reporting integrity. In addition, the manager also provides guidance to lead analyst in helping with various activities in completing the regulatory quality assurance review. The control validation in this role focuses primarily on capital planning (CCAR) and liquidity control review, plus other regulatory reports as needed. With prior experiences in data or technology audits, the manager will consider data lineage, data profiling and/or data analytics to achieve efficiency and effectiveness in control testing, or help other team members with report review planning that include adherence testing and substantive testing procedures. The position will also partner with key stakeholders in Capital Planning, Liquidity and Reporting to identify areas of regulatory reporting improvements, including identifying process enhancements and issues that require remediation. Other responsibilities include drafting issues, preparing closing reports, managing timely remediation, training team members, setting up reporting metrics and participating in technology projects. This is a role in a high performing team within a high growth, fast paced and exciting business environment.
Essential Functions
- Partner with the Capital Planning and Liquidity teams by providing recommendations or process improvements related to procedures, documentation, and control effectiveness through regular testing programs.
- Assist in continuous monitoring process and risk assessments of regulatory processes and reports for annual planning
- Work with stakeholders to enhance risk and control matrix with relevant risk areas, key data elements and control description that mitigates the risks.
- Perform risk assessment and scoping procedures
- Work together with junior team member in testing controls for design and operating effectiveness, participate in testing activities as necessary. The team may consist of lead analysts and consultants
- Review working papers to ensure all documentation is in accordance with professional standards
- Prepare deficiency write-ups and closing memos while managing remediation monitoring and validation
- Communicate issues to report owners, provide recommendations related to action plan steps, and validate remediation action plans for adequacy and to ensure compliance with standards.
- Enhance current management reporting of the team, enhance standards for workpaper documentation, assist in creating presentation for committees and contribute to any other projects or risk related activities as required
Experience Required
- Great communicator with 7-10 years performing audit work, which conforms to professional standards. Progressive experience in a combination of public accounting (Big 4 or large regional accounting firm) and/or internal audit experience with a background in financial services regulatory reporting and technology.
- Software: Microsoft Office Suite, Workiva, Axiom, and/or a programming language such as python, open to learning new applications
- Master degree, CPA or CIA a plus
