As a **Principal Engineer** in MECCs Product Development and Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Team (PD/AME), you will be a primary architect of robust engineering and decision tradeoffs used in the development batteries, high voltage capacitors, and feedthroughs, used in implantable medical devices. You accomplish this by working closely with technical teams, functional managers, MECC leadership and Operating Unit development partners to understand technical risk and burndown activities to drive quality with speed to meet business and market needs.

**A Day in the Life**
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
+ Mentor, coach, and provide work direction for junior level engineers
+ Partner with program and functional managers to review key program technical strategies and ensure application of engineering best practices.
+ Work with technical and business stakeholders to understand organizational capabilities, business and market needs and associated trade-off spaces to help drive MECC technical strategy.
+ Build consensus amongst project team functions regarding key design, manufacturing, and reliability tradeoffs.
+ Partner with PD/AME leadership to understand cross-program technical risks and work to highlight and resolve integration issues across the portfolio.
+ Serve as a primary technical voice on urgent and visible programs within MECC and outside MECC.
+ Drive adoption of DRM principles across Product Development programs.
+ Lead engagement and collaboration activities with Distinguished and Sr. Principal level engineering staff to drive technical capability development and consistent application of engineering best practices.
+ Working knowledge of battery, capacitor, and feedthrough designs and related manufacturing processes.
+ Ability to provide inputs and communicate development schedules, timelines, technical leadership, and resource requirements for the successful completion of technical activities.
+ Interpret results, document, and present clear, accurate findings through technical design reviews.
+ Leads and manages cross functional, cross-system, and strategic initiatives.
+ Advanced ability to foresee problems and provide alternate solutions and proactively influence the corresponding resolution.
+ Lead failure root cause analysis and delegate action items to cross functional team
+ Investigate, develop, and recommend new and existing technologies for process and design architecture
+ Use empirical and first principals modeling to solve complex problems
**Must Have: Minimum Requirements**
+ Bachelors degree required
+ Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience
**Nice to Have**
+ Experience in RD of complex chemical, material, mechanical and electrical systems.
+ Good teamwork and interpersonal skills, good communication and presentation skills
+ Ability to apply critical thinking skills to determine the appropriate work methods needed to achieve results.
+ Proven ability to accomplish critical project level objectives in a team environment.
+ Knowledge of ISO and Quality System Regulation requirements.
+ DRM BB or Six Sigma Equivalent
+ Effective use of DRM/Six Sigma Simulation and modeling tools
+ Good working knowledge of GDT, applied metrology, and drawing best practices
+ Knowledge of ASTM standards and test methods
