Northern Trust is currently looking for a Principal Application Architect to join our growing Data Mesh team. This is a key role that will provide thought leadership in an enterprise-wide data and digital transformation initiative and deliver excellent user experience for publishing or consuming data products on the Mesh system.
A successful candidate will be customer-centric with a passion for leveraging modern cloud architectures and technology to make significant business impacts across organizational boundaries. This technology leader will bring in the experience of SaaS/cloud solutions (Azure), full-stack development, DevSecOps automation and best practices in building, maintaining, and enhancing state of the art web application/s in a hybrid-cloud environment.
Responsibilities:
Work with business partners to design and deliver full-stack application/s that will provide excellent user experience to data producers and consumers of Northern Trust's data mesh platform.
Be a hands-on practical leader to ensure both functional and non-functional requirements (e.g., security, performance, availability and DR/fail-over, scalability, compliance etc.) are properly articulated, designed, implemented, and well documented in the entire software development life cycle.
Provide technical support and assistance in troubleshooting, configuring, and performance tuning packaged solutions and tools, such as Talend, AirFlow and etc.
Document application architecture and developmental best practices related to Spring Boot, Docker, Kubernetes, and Azure cloud.
Evaluate, prototype, and recommend emerging Cloud technologies and platforms from open source or vendors. Independently conduct POC projects.
Communicate complex technical topics to non-technical business and senior executives and assist with scoping and architecting cloud data solutions.
Required
At least 8 years of experience in developing full-stack applications in an enterprise and/or cloud environment.
Deep understanding of application architecture and the criticality of non-functional requirements.
Hands-on expertise of multiple modern frameworks and best practices in application development such as Spring Boot, Docker, Kubernetes, and DevSecOps.
Knowledge of on-prem/cloud data virtualization such as Tibco DV, Denodo, Starburst, or Dremio.
Skilled in variety of languages such as Java or Python.
Experience in writing scripts for Linux shell and Windows PowerShell.
Strong organization and communication skills.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline.
Preferred Specific Skills:
Knowledge of data analytics technology and methodology, such as advanced analytics or machine learning.
Experience with DevOps, DataOps, and/or MLOps using ADO.
Working knowledge of data security such as Voltage, SecuPi, and Protegrity.
Knowledge of IaC and automation such as Terraform and Ansible.
Working experience with Azure and AWS cloud data and service offerings.
