We are looking for a Principal Nonclinical Toxicologist to join our Biological Sciences Insights (BSI) group in Richmond, VA, or we are open to remote work arrangements.
The selected candidate will use their scientific expertise in strategic growth and application of our nonclinical toxicology program, supporting the development and marketing of the company's portfolio of reduced-risk tobacco and nicotine products.
What you will be doing:
Provide strategic guidance and scientific recommendations in health risk evaluations using regulatory and mechanistic toxicology tools and applications
Identify gaps and implement capability expansion in nonclinical testing with external testing partners. Test materials are diverse, ranging from individual chemicals to mixtures, and from oral to inhalable tobacco and nicotine products
Lead and work proactively on individual and cross-functional projects, using both standardized and novel New Alternative Methods (NAMs) to expand predictive toxicology capability
Serve as Study Sponsor on externally executed studies; design, monitor, interpret the results and reporting for internal communication and regulatory submissions
Identify, screen, and qualify external CROs for regulatory and foundational studies; Manage projects to proactively meet timeline and budget, and ensure Quality and Data Integrity in both GLP and non-GLP studies
Represent the company via regular presentations at toxicology or tobacco-related conferences and peer-review publications
Keep abreast of toxicology-related fields and bring insight to build internal capability, and engage strategically in the scientific community
Occasional travel (10-20%) to CROs such as for lab selection, inspection, or study monitoring
What we want you to have:
Bachelor's degree required with 10+ years of experience in Toxicology or related field. Advanced degree or DABT certification is preferred, with 5+ years of post-graduate experience in related field
Experience (e.g., study director, study monitor) in conducting nonclinical studies using various test systems (e.g., in vitro - cells to 3D tissues; in vivo - rodents with oral or inhalation exposures)
Proven experience in designing and implementing mechanistic toxicology studies (e.g., systems toxicology - omics and pathway analysis; disease biomarkers) are highly desirable
Experience in project management with attention to detail and analytical reasoning skills
Ability to communication with a diverse audience (technical and non-technical).
Ability to work independently and multi-task under deadlines in a fast-paced environment
A great teammate and mentor with effective interpersonal skills; seeks feedback to implement
