Position Overview
The Manager, Product and Category Planning, reports to the Sr. Manager of Category Management and owns the analysis of the consumer mobile product categories, development of short to mid-term category strategies as well as implementation of long-term technology essential Samsungs business growth with a major U.S. carrier customer. The candidate is responsible for monitoring and analyzing product performance, conducting thorough analysis of numerous product categories to determine optimal portfolio and approach (proactive and reactive) to drive the category success. The manager will recommend new products & features and sales & marketing initiatives based on market, customer and category inputs and trends. This versatile leader must also understand the carriers device & network roadmap and manage collaboration with the carrier for technical enablement initiatives. The candidate will apply both business and technology expertise to develop strong business proposals to support multiple categories growth within the company.
Role and Responsibilities
Responsibilities and Duties:
Collaborate and establish effective cross-functional working relationships with business planning, sales, marketing, SEA North America product/category management along with global product planning at headquarters.
Responsible for developing regular analysis, sales projections and ad-hoc business modeling synthesizing market, share, revenue and profit data to evaluate scenarios for new and existing products in various categories.
Generate strategy, recommendations and actions to drive growth in product category(ies). Identify opportunity areas and areas of category performance improvement.
Establish device marketing and technical relationships with carrier partner to execute category planning and technology initiatives.
Project manage and successfully implement technology initiatives with major U.S. carrier customer in collaboration with Samsung engineering and product planning leadership.
Oversee data collection, performance analysis, problem identification, and associated recommendations in support of exceeding quarterly and annual revenue, profit, and market share goals for assigned category(ies) and customer(s).
Background/Experience Required:
Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Engineering Management, Business Information Technology, Business Administration, Sales Operations management, or a related field.
Master degree preferred.
Must have 6+ years of related work experience in Business Planning, Product Development, Product/Category Management, Consulting or Product Marketing.
Must have demonstrated knowledge and experience within telecom sector and related wireless ecosystem (hardware, OS/software, app developers, service providers, carriers) software).
Must have Understanding of consumer mobile products (across smartphone, tablet, productivity and/or wearables).
Demonstrated success in developing business models and financial analysis.
Has led projects/initiatives. New technology implementation experience preferred.

Proven ability to communicate in numbers and articulate strategy/recommendations to internal Director/VP level audience.
Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize multiple initiatives. Proven success in a highly dynamic, deadline-driven environment.
Should have advanced MS Excel and MS PowerPoint knowledge and skills. Experience with tableau or similar modeling technologies preferred.
Demonstrated excellence in both oral/presentation and written communications.

Physical/Mental Demands:
Work is generally performed in an office environment. Operate a computer keyboard and view a video display terminal between more than 50% of work time, including prolonged periods of time. Requires considerable work utilizing high visual acuity / detail, numeric / character distinction and moderate hand / finger dexterity. The movement and transportation of equipment, most of the time is under 25 pounds. Performs work under time schedules and stress which are normally periodic or cyclical, including time sensitive deadlines, intellectual challenges and project management deadlines. Machines, tools, equipment, and work aids include PCs, printers, copiers, faxes and other equipment commonly associated with an office work area. May require working additional hours beyond normal schedule. Travel varies depending on position.
