Position Summary:
Plans conducts, and directs a wide variety of experiments. Assists with the day-to-day activities for research project(s) and may impact the success of the research project(s).
Functioning somewhat independently, the Research Associate will be a crucial team member for the UTHealth School of Public Health HEAREM Research Collaborative. The Collaborative aims to produce phased evidence to support the improvement of the patient-clinician relationship as it relates to cross-cultural communication and racial and ethnic discordance in the pediatric clinical encounter.
The Research Associate will assist in designing, implementing, and evaluating multiple highly specialized and advanced using established mixed-methods frameworks and protocols, as well as provide supervision and guidance to student team members.
This position is required on campus and does not have the ability to telework remotely.
Position Key Accountabilities:
Contribute to writing and editing reports, presentations, manuscripts, meeting materials, and other deliverables for multiple audiences
Writes and manages IRB and ethics protocols using the University-wide ethics management system
Contribute discrete components of a larger project under the general direction of Dr. Preston
Contribute to the preparation of grant proposals and reports for funders
Supervise other personnel in the team to coordinate research efforts for increased efficiency; participate in the training of fellows, residents, students, and volunteer workers as needed
Identify, review, and synthesize data and information from published literature and web-based resources on various health disparities and health equity topics (Including related to HPV vaccination, vaccine hesitancy, and provider communication) and update with rapidly evolving literature
Conduct qualitative research, such as key informant interviews and focus groups, and analyze and synthesize findings
Conduct advanced quantitative analyses and visualizations, including large dataset analysis
Assist with coordinating research activities, such as scheduling and organizing focus groups, in-depth interviews, community forums, and advisory meetings
Contribute to designing and conducting program evaluations, surveys, and other measurement tools
Conduct outreach and provide technical assistance to local external partners
Perform related duties as assigned
This position may involve contact with human subjects or access to data derived from human subjects. Certification of education on the protection of human research participants must be completed and submitted within five days of the effective date of employment.
Certification/Skills:

This position requires a solid knowledge of standard statistical analysis procedures and familiarity with at least one statistical analysis software (SPSS, R, SAS, etc.). Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
Preference given to students that have taken, or are interested in taking, Intervention Mapping and Qualitative Methods/Analysis, have advanced experience with REDcap and ATLAS.ti, and IRB management
Experience with clinical-based research is desirable
Proficient in public speaking and developing presentations for a variety of audiences
Ability to provide prompt, courteous, and timely responses to requests for data
General knowledge of public health research principles and approaches
Minimum Education:
Bachelor's degree in a related field with three (3) years of related research experience including experience in a lead research role; or
Master's degree in a related field with one (1) year of related research experience including experience in a lead research role; or
Doctorate degree.

Years of experience varies based on education level.
