As the Senior Engineer, Systems (Windows), you will ensure that all server systems (e.g., hardware, storage, software) are operating as efficiently and productively as possible. You will monitor performance on servers and related systems and take corrective action when necessary, install new servers and upgrade existing servers. This role can be located in Greensboro, NC, or Charlotte, NC. A hybrid or primarily remote role is possible if the candidate can work out of the data center at times when needed. What you'll do on a typical day:

  • Develop, test and implement technical improvements to system configuration and operation following change control processes

  • Develop scripts to enhance the daily operation and maintenance of production and test systems

  • Investigate, configure and test new technologies for use and deployment in the production environment

  • Complete forms or update configuration databases to reflect all changes affecting the equipment or software inventories (e.g., after equipment installations, software installations or equipment moves)

  • Implement and follow processes to ensure the security of all systems and data

  • Design, implement and execute appropriate standardized procedures to ensure system health and provide reports or logs as required

  • Manage assigned projects and complete in a timely manner; execute in a leadership capacity at times

  • Provide third-tier support to Support Center. Complete work necessary to resolve assigned Incident tickets within service windows and updates information in the Support Center system to completely describe ticket resolution. Refer problems to level three service providers as required.

  • Follow department change and configuration management procedures

  • Able to lead, teach and influence the work of others as an experienced member of the team.

  • Participate in 24x7 on-call support rotation

  • Occasional travel may be required.

  • Other duties as assigned to support departmental and company objectives

What you need to succeed at GXO:

At a minimum, you'll need:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work or military experience

  • 2 years of related work experience

  • Scripting experience

  • Experience with storage systems related to server installation and support

  • Solid skills in Windows performance tuning and troubleshooting

  • Advanced knowledge of Active Directory and Group Policy management, Domain Name System (DNS), Windows Internet Name Service (WINS) and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP)

  • Advanced knowledge of hardware maintenance and installation

It'd be great if you also have:

  • 5 years of Windows system administration experience required (2008 and 2019 preferred)

  • Citrix and/or Remote Desktop Services experience

  • Expert knowledge of hardware maintenance and installation

  • Knowledge of the Windows Firewall

  • Experience with storage systems as it relates to server installation and support.

  • Microsoft certification or course work (MCSE/MCITP)
