The Connected Customer Services team is responsible for a portfolio of mission critical systems that power customer-facing experiences on Bestbuy.com as well as associate-facing experiences at the point-of-sale systems. These systems require multiple areas of specialization such as Search, Distributed Services, Big Data platforms, Cloud, Infrastructure, and more. We work with emerging technology solutions including Google Cloud Platform, Machine Learning, Kafka Streams, OpenShift, NoSQL, Cassandra, Spring, Java, Groovy, REST-based web services. Were starting on our journey to rebuild systems using cloud-native approaches.

As Senior Engineering Manager, you will be a hands-on engineering practitioner that leads the design and development of applications. You will be responsible for nurturing and leading agile teams of skilled engineers, QA, and BAs. You will provide thought leadership, mentorship as well as technical guidance to your team. You will have a strong understanding of the organization-wide technical landscape to drive solutions that span multiple teams.

Ideal Candidates Should Have:

  • A demonstrated background in working directly with tech leads, engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders.

  • Creative and innovation-driven with the ability to articulate engineering design patterns related to scale, performance, security, and usability.

  • Experience in the implementation and deployment of modern web development solutions: Google Cloud Platform, Java, Groovy, Spring, REST-based web services, NoSQL databases.

  • Experience in agile development methodology Scrum, Kanban, and/or XP.

  • Experience in test-driven development practices, continuous integration, and deployment practices.

  • Experience with any Cloud Computing platforms (e.g. Google Cloud Platform, Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure).

  • A proven track record of recruiting and retaining top-notch engineers.

  • Persuasive written and oral communication skills.

  • Passion for building top-quality products & services

  • Exceptional ability to collaborate effectively on cross-functional projects


Minimum Qualifications

  • 5 or more years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant professional experience.

  • 1 or more years managing and/or leading engineering teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • 6 or more years of demonstrated experience running large cross-functional projects; experience working with technical and business teams

  • 4 or more years of experience in a leadership capacity - coaching and mentoring engineers, developers

  • Hands-on development experience to include one of Java, Python, PHP

  • Unit testing, test-driven development or functional test automation
