Position description
Are you looking for an opportunity to apply your knowledge organization, metadata, and ontology chops to world-class health information? Does the integration of semantic structure with rich metadata and content models to facilitate multi-channel delivery interest you? Help us build a next-generation connected content platform and knowledge graph for the No. 1 hospital in the world, providing information to consumers, patients, and clinicians where it is needed, when it is needed.

Provide leadership in the development, management and implementation of the Mayo Consumer Health Vocabulary and other controlled vocabularies and ontologies to support navigation systems, search mechanisms, search engine optimization and personalized delivery of health information and services for Mayo Clinic Health Education and Content Services. Work collaboratively in cross functional teams to assess ontology needs to support product development across the department. Strategically lead the incorporation of machine learning and automatic classification approaches to the Semantic Services Environment. Champion semantic modeling, structured content, and metadata standards as integral part of enterprise content strategy. Evaluate content domains, conduct content audits and analysis to inform the ongoing development of the Mayo Consumer Health Vocabulary and other industry standard vocabularies like SNOMED CT. Supervise and direct ontology specialists and manage projects requiring substantial intra-organizational coordination.

Qualifications
Masters of Library and Information Science (MLIS) or comparable degree in areas such as information systems, knowledge management, or computer science is required. Eight years experience in ontology/taxonomy development and management. Proven track record of leading ontology/taxonomy implementation for the complete life cycle of a web product or technology. Experience evaluating effectiveness of taxonomies/ontologies in supporting products and services. Experience with taxonomy-management systems. Expertise in: information retrieval/search, information organization and classification, and content or entity extraction. Strong analytical skills; experience with both quantitative and qualitative methods desirable. Demonstrated leadership abilities for managing people and projects. Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Additional qualifications
Machine learning background preferred.
Experience with TopBraid, Protg, PoolParty, or other graph-based taxonomy/ontology management tools preferred.
