Our Santa Barbara, CA location is seeking a Software Engineer I to support our Embedded Medical Devices. Ideal candidate has good critical thinking skills and is eager to learn new technologies. This role will primarily focus on application and UI development on the next generation of our endoscopic camera system (Synergy Vision) for orthopedic surgeons around the world.

Ideal candidate has experience developing elegant and usable User Interface (UI) and experience with Qt QML. Experience with C/C++ and Python highly preferred. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supports the architecture and/or design of reliable, efficient, and reusable software components using C/C++, Python, and other similar languages for Linux targets.

  • Performs tasks that contribute to the design and/or development of robust, sustainable, and scalable software implementations that meet design intent.

  • Participates in gathering user/customer functional requirements, including providing marketing and product management with technical information that can be used for training and marketing.

  • Reports progress and status of assigned projects on a timely basis with emphasis on reporting results.

  • Performs software testing and participate in code reviews.

  • Documentation and change management of custom code.

  • Participates in the design/development of software SOPs including planning verification, validation, and implementation.

  • Supports design history file deliverables for assigned projects, adhering to design control procedures.

  • Meets regularly with embedded software engineering team to solicit feedback on needs.

  • Participates in writing specifications for programming projects.

  • Maintains an understanding of source code management, IDEs, and defect tracking systems.

  • Follows Arthrex quality standards and processes.

  • Work is closely supervised.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field preferred.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:

  • Knowledge of software development lifecycle preferred.

  • Familiarity with software applications and object-oriented programming preferred.

  • Knowledge of C/C++ and Python preferred.

  • Familiarity with debugging, troubleshooting, and system optimization preferred.
