Our work depends on a Senior Software Engineer joining our team to support our client activities in McLean, VA. The Software Engineer will design, develop, code, test, and debug complex software products, or make significant enhancements to existing software. The ideal candidate is a hands-on platform builder with significant experience in developing scalable data platforms, with experience in business intelligence, analytics, and data science and data products. They must have strong, firsthand technical expertise in a variety of configuration management and big data technologies and the proven ability to fashion robust scalable solutions that can manage large data sets. They must be at ease working in an agile environment with little supervision. This person should embody a passion for continuous improvement and innovation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work with a team to analyze existing software applications and tools, and recommend new technologies and methodologies to improve system performance and usability
Design, develops, tests, debugs, and deploys new software tools that extend or replace existing capabilities
Advise hardware engineers on machine characteristics that affect software systems, such as storage capacity, processing speed, and input/output requirements and works with them to resolve incompatibilities
Write and updates technical documentation such as user manuals, system documentation, training materials, processes and procedures
Collaborate cross-functionally with data scientists, analyst, project managers and other engineers and analysts
Provide ongoing maintenance, support, and enhancements in existing systems and platforms
Design and develop a processing platform using various configuration management technologies
Provide ongoing maintenance, support, and enhancements in existing systems and platforms
Troubleshoots complex problems and provides customer support for software systems and application issues
Provide recommendations for continuous improvement
Work alongside other engineers on the team to sustain and advance our organizations capabilities
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
TS/SCI with Polygraph
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other related technical discipline, or equivalent combination of education, technical certifications, training, and work/military experience
8years of related software engineering, data analysis or ETL experience
Demonstrated hands-on experience with modern programming languages including Java, Java Script, Python, and other non-relational databases
Demonstrated hands-on experience integrating and developing code for visualization of data (e.g, using D3.js or vue.js libraries or developing Tableau or Kibana dashboards)
Demonstrated hands-on experience with clustered machines and technologies like Elasticsearch, Redis or Greenplum
Demonstrated hands-on DevOps experience building and deploying infrastructure with technologies such as Ansible and Puppet
Demonstrated hands-on experience with monitoring technologies like ELK, Prometheus, Grafana, etc.
Demonstrated hands-on experience with building APIs and services using RESTDemonstrated hands-on experience with build automation technologies like Maven, Jenkins, etc.
Demonstrated hands-on experience with Linux (preferred) or Windows operating systems
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
Demonstrated hands-on experience in programming and software development experience in programming web and client/server applications using PHP, C++, C#, HTML, etc.
Demonstrated hands-on experience working with Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka, Rabbit MQ, Apache NiFi and Mongo DB
Demonstrated hands-on experience with database technologies (e.g. Postgres, SQL Server, Oracle, and OmniSci)
Demonstrated hands-on experience designing and developing a processing platform using various configuration management technologies (e.g., Git)
Demonstrated hands-on experience with Linux-based systems and shell scripting
