Engineering Manager/Director (NY).
The ideal candidate:
Has technical experience implementing systems with complex requirements using Java, Python, Oracle, PostgreSQL and MongoDB
Led and coached software engineers, including at junior or associate level.
Has experience implementing enterprise wide systems using Low code and BPM platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead one or more software engineers working on enterprise-scale systems and applications. You'll split your time between unblocking your team, vetting their designs, and coaching them to realize their full potential.
Act as an SME for multiple business applications and software development stacks.
Partner with other Engineering, Data and Architecture teams on innovation.
Hands-on development of proof of concepts.
Provide technical guidance to the engineering team in incorporating atomic design concepts, provide effective translation of requirements and business needs, and adopt domain driven design principles to implementations.
Contribute to the Software Engineering groups to establish tools, technologies, standards, and ways of working that expedite agile delivery.
Build and deliver on technology and product roadmap in partnership with product owners, and stakeholders; Skilfully prioritize tech-debt pay-down projects as well as strategic initiatives with a focus on cloud native approach, automation, and innovation.
Establish and outperform metrics on engineering quality, operational excellence and agility.
Required Skills and Experience:
10+ years' experience with increasing responsibility designing, delivering, and maintaining large-scale, global systems and platforms using Java, Python, and RDBMS like Oracle or PostgreSQL.
experience in building, managing, and growing high-performance software engineering teams.
Guiding architectural choices on appropriate use of polyglot persistence using SQL/NoSQL data stores (Mongo, Oracle, Postgres).
Demonstrated experience in applying streaming and event driven techniques.
Driving operational excellence and engineering best practices for full-stack software development.
Strong understanding of software development lifecycles (SDLC) with a primary focus on agile methodologies.
Experience in setting up with Deployment tools such as Bamboo, Ant or Maven.
Above knowledge and experience will have been gained in a commercial environment.
Desirable skills
5+ years' experience with designing, delivering, and maintaining large-scale, global systems and platforms using Python.
Working knowledge of Appian or other low code and BPM platforms.
Familiarity of Cloud Computing AWS or Azure (Compute, Storage, Database, Deployment and Application Services).
Familiarity with Docker-based containerization of web components.
Familiarity with Kubernetes / EKS-based container orchestration.
Experience in Financial Services industry.
Agile practitioner capabilities & experience working with or in Agile teams.

Strong academic background, educated to degree level, ideally in computer science or engineering.
