SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Provides technical, logistical, and administrative support to the Bridges & Building Assistant Division Engineer in the New York Sub-Division for the efficient and cost-effective management of construction, maintenance, and inspection of Bridges & Buildings infrastructure. Work in both the office and in the field in all types of weather conditions to support a 24/7 operation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Observe field activities to ensure conformance with safety protocols. Correct activities that do not conform and advise supervision when necessary. Report observations to the ADE and assist in driving improvement in the overall safety culture. Implements safety work plans for the prevention & elimination of personal injuries and hazardous conditions on Amtrak property and the right-of-way.
Ensure all regulatory and required inspections are performed on-time and at a high level through observations in the field. Correct poor performance in this area and advise supervision when necessary.
Monitor the condition of B&B assets throughout the sub-division to ensure all aspects of the infrastructure meet or exceed all current Amtrak standards and comply with all relevant regulatory requirements. Advise ADE where capital renewal programs should be planned prioritizing locations for state of good repair projects and programs.
Requests and monitors the status of procurement for all material and services, and ensures the proper delivery, storage, and installation of materials as well as the performance of any contracted services. Ensure adequate stock of material is available for running repairs. Plan installations and coordinates work activities with other crafts and transportation.
Communicates with system office and provides technical support in the field for all inspection, maintenance, and construction activities. Available 24/7 to respond to emergencies and interruptions to the operations. Support planned work on weekends and nights in the field.
Work with ADE to develop and execute capital program for B&B. Develop estimates, means & methods as well perform construction management to assure all work is perform up to specification.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent work experience and training in position of similar capacity.
Railroad work experience in the areas of Bridge inspection, maintenance, and construction of major transportation infrastructure.
Must be able to interface with all levels of employees and both external and internal customers.
Must be skilled and experienced with MS Office, creating spreadsheets, presentations, memorandums, and utilizing other applications to perform job functions.
Demonstrated experience in all facets of Bridge and Building inspection, maintenance, and construction including but not limited to bridge repairs, culvert repairs, passenger station maintenance, facility maintenances, as well as working knowledge of other crafts involved.
Demonstrated knowledge and applied experience in railroad operations, operating rules, and divisional operating processes and procedures
Possess knowledge of and ability to apply Federal Railroad Regulations including Roadway Worker Protection and those pertaining to Bridges and Buildings.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Licensed Professional Engineer or ability to acquire.
Held craft positions(s) performing Bridge or Building inspection, maintenance, and construction.
Five years of experience in railroad operations within the Engineering Department.
Position is responsible for 24/7 operation.
Available to work at various times to support railroad operations as needed including nights and weekends.
Combination of office and field environment working in all weather conditions.
Travel: 30%
