The Central Channels Well Managed team is seeking a senior risk manager to oversee three awesomely-balanced domains: Risk Event Management, Crisis Management, & Transformational Insights. We are looking for a Senior Risk Manager to run a well-oiled event-and-crisis engine while reimagining the status quo, finding themes and trends, and driving innovative, sustainable solutions that reduce risk for the Channels organization. This role includes leading people leaders, so having proven experience as a people manager is critical.
A great candidate for this role will thrive on work that is ripe for transformation. When our business partners shine the proverbial batman symbol into the sky to signal a critical need, the right candidate will be ready to rise to the occasion. This means not just saving the day, but helping our partners understand how to reduce how often they need to use the bat-light. This puts the perfect candidate in a position to create game-changing value while building a network of diverse allies across the organization.
**This role has three lanes of strategic leadership, all positioned to enable you to be a force-multiplier for your inspired team of 12+ skilled risk experts:**
+ **Risk Event & Anomaly Management** **:** One seasoned performer (with a backup!) leads the anomaly intake process for your team. If one of those anomalies becomes a Risk Event, it moves into the capable hands of your risk event team. One talented manager leads this team of ~8 event managers. These folks take on Channels events to ensure sustainable containment, thorough remediation, and long-term corrective actions take place.
+ **Crisis Management:** One people leader oversees the US Card Crisis Management team. This is the team that cares for our customers in moments that matter - floods, fires, hurricanes, and tornadoes are some of the potential crises that could prompt this team to take action to ensure customers are cared-for.
+ **Transformational Insights** : This is the place where strategic magic happens! This is all about connecting dots, finding trends, flagging themes, and helping our leaders see around corners when it comes to imminent and emerging risks. Creating practices and cadences with your team, along with an understanding of other areas risks, will set you up to be a valued partner for the Channels teams you support.
**To be great at these things, a great candidate will be:**
+ **Knowledgeable about Risk Management & Controls:** When you bring expertise and experience to the arena, you are poised to transform the way the team enables well-managed business growth through risk management activities
+ **Passionate about problem solving:** You invite big, hairy problems to sit down and share their story. You ask why until you can really understand how to address the root cause of a realized risk.
+ **An experienced, supportive people leader:** As a leader of leaders, youll need to bring your heart and strategic vision to build on the inspiring, inclusive, engaged culture that makes this team special today. They are seriously rad.
+ **Comfortable with Data** : Capital one is a data-driven company. You must be confident navigating a variety of dashboards and data sources in order to drive insights that will influence your business partners.
+ **Versed in Manual Process malice:** Humans are amazing, but asking them to do repetitive manual tasks or to be the only failure point in a process is RISKY! Youll need to bring a healthy distaste for manual processes to help influence business partners to build risk mitigation into automated processes.
+ **Intellectually Curious:** You ask why, you explore, you're not afraid to blurt out your crazy idea or follow an email chain for weeks to find someone with an answer. You are comfortable with ambiguity and have a hunger to learn and a seek of new challenges. Youre always learning while staying humble when the time comes to ask for help.
+ **A Team Player.** You enjoy working with diverse people and driving the team toward a common goal. You have the ability to put the team before yourself and establish long-lasting relationships.
**Basic Qualifications:**
+ Bachelors Degree or comparable work/military experience
+ At least 3 years of experience in process management
+ At least 3 years of Financial Services risk management experience
+ At least 5 years of project management experience
+ At least 7 years of experience supporting, partnering & interacting with internal business clients
