Medline Corporate R&D is looking for a Sr. Mechanical Design engineer in our Corporate R&D department in Northfield IL. The Corporate R&D team supports all of Medline's divisions in developing a wide range of mechanical and electromechanical medical devices.
Our R&D engineers are a critical resource within our NPD team that assists with developing robust component designs, assemblies and manufacturing processes. This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer with great injection molded plastics design experience to share their expertise, and help us deliver innovation and assist our infusion pump development team in developing the next generation infusion pumps. This position follows a hybrid model of work (Tues/Thurs in office).
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the design, development, and qualification of plastic components in Class I and Class II medical devices
Serve as an integral part of NPD team and execute design for manufacturing/assembly/cost
Ensure compliance with user requirements, quality, regulatory, safety and ergonomic standards
Incorporate risk mitigation methodology to drive process stability and capability
Support design transfer to manufacturing including collaborating with domestic and international manufacturers to validate designs and troubleshoot problems that arise.
Collaborate with product divisions to identify and advise on user needs and design requirements.
Leverage customer interactions to incorporate human factors and user centered design philosophies into product design efforts.
Work with legal to design and implement new intellectual property.

Education
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or biomedical engineering
Work Experience
At least 4 years of experience in product design. (Mechanical product design preferred)
Must have experience with Solidworks and prototype fabrication.
PREFERRED JOB REQUIREMENTS
Should have direct experience in injection molded plastics part design and manufacturing. Blow molding, rotational molding, compression molding experience a plus.
Certified Solidworks Professional
Experience with Solidworks Plastic simulation or MoldFlow is a plus
Experience designing and launching electromechanical devices to market.
Experience designing ruggedized and Ingress Protection (IP) rated products
Experience in product design within the medical device industry including medical device requirements (Class I-II), design controls, and assessment of risk is a plus
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Position requires travel up to 10% of the time for business purposes (domestic and international).
