Staff Software Engineer: Database
We are looking for an experienced, high caliber Database Architect to join our Cloud and Mobile Engineering Team. This team is responsible for building a next generation software platform using a modern technology stack for a cloud-based remote patient monitoring system. In this journey we are replacing/refactoring our legacy software monolith with a domain-driven design and micro-service-based architecture. The database architect will help with the data transition to the cloud as well as future projects around expanded data analytics, data retention processes, security, and automating processes around data regulatory compliance.
This team is part of a culturally diverse global team sharing the same goal, and is comprised of highly skilled, experienced, motivated, ever-curious, and thus ever-learning individuals. As part of this team, you will design, develop, and document data architectures and processes containing medical device data.
Primary Responsibilities:
Â
Creating and maintaining high performance and stable data architectures to meet the needs of customers.
Propose improvements to current systems in the areas of performance, reliability, scalability, and security.
Testing and verifying DR strategies are working as expected and within business guidance.
Design, build, and maintain data structures to satisfy analytical needs from stakeholders.
Provide day-to-day technical leadership; leverage professional experience to recommend best practices, systems, and architectures.
Participate in code reviews and create documentation on engineering and cross-functional practices.
Translate requirements and vision into prioritized list of user stories and deliver to required timelines and quality standards.
Debug, troubleshoot, and isolate software problems as well as offers strategic solutions, analysis, and advice regarding identified issues for future development.
Deliver value through a strong collaborative approach spanning many teams across geographies.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Information Technology/Information Science or “STEM†Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)
8+ years' experience in building and maintaining complex mission-critical production database systems
Deep knowledge and experience designing and maintaining PostgreSQL relational databases or similar in the cloud
Experience configuring database high availability, connection pooling, and load balancing
Experience in designing DR strategies, BCP procedures, Data replication and DB Auto Failover processes
Working knowledge of managing compliance requirements like GDPR (data retention, data residency, and data sovereignty)
Good understanding of designing data pipelines for schema management, automating the movement and transformation of data
Working knowledge of relational database internals (locking, consistency, serialization, recovery paths)
Experience with data analytics platforms in a regulated environment
Nice to have: Experience on one back-end web technology, potentially including Java, .Net, Go, Ruby on Rails
Knowledge of Microservices, server-less technologies, and other architectures
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Agility to adapt to technologies and processes quickly
