Reporting to an Assistant Director within SASS, the Student-Athlete Advisor II position will work with track & field student-athletes as well as a small Olympic team(s). This individual must possess and demonstrate superior understanding of NCAA, Conference USA, and University rules as they apply to the provision of academic support to student athletes. The ethical and moral decision making and actions of this individual must be accurate, transparent, and always in keeping with the rules of the NCAA, Conference USA, University, and SASS.
The Student-Athlete Advisor II will provide counsel to student athletes regarding academics and life skills; act as liaison among coaches, teaching faculty, staff, and student athletes; work collaboratively with other units across campus in efforts to assist student athletes effectively; monitor the academic performance and eligibility of assigned student athletes to ensure compliance with institutional, Conference USA, and NCAA requirements. The Student-Athlete Advisor II will also be involved in academic recruiting for official and unofficial visitations and support the monitoring of NCAA eligibility, Academic Progress Rate (APR) and Graduation Success Rate (GSR) data for student-athletes.
(Annual Salary: $39,215 - $45,000 commensurate with experience)
Qualifications

Master's degree in Counseling, Education or a related field and one (1) year of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
* Experience with academic advising of college students.
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse educational, cultural, and economic backgrounds.
* Strong commitment to academic and personal integrity.
* Excellent written and oral communication, computer and organizational skills.
* Sensitivity to, respect for, and understanding of educational and social developmental needs of student-athletes.
* Ability and willingness to travel and work outside normal business hours (evenings, weekends, and some holidays).
* A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
Preferred:
* Two (2) years of experience working with student-athletes within an athletic academic support program at a Division I or II institution.
* Excellent knowledge and working experience with NCAA eligibility rules and regulations.
* Knowledge of student records systems, Teamworks and other related applications
* Demonstrated experience collecting and monitoring APR, GSR, and graduation rate data.
* Typical office environment with some evening and weekend commitments.
