TELECOMMUNICATIONS TECHNICIAN
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain and manage communication infrastructure to data servers, networking hardware, IP devices, and IT systems
Lead the architecture and build out the SpaceX infrastructure to support our HD quality video
Develop and maintain high performance video streaming infrastructure and related technologies
Administer the network video recording system
Configure, develop, test and implement appropriate codec settings for live video streaming
Build and support the network systems (voice, video and data) including switches, routers and physical layer
Maintain inventory of cameras, communications intercom systems, and test and calibration equipment
Responsible for the implementation and upkeep of the sites video systems
Responsible for configuring and maintaining security cameras and servers, may include the security perimeter server
Responsible for interfacing and managing contractors for trenching, terminations, and various installs including fiber and copper cabling
Install hardware in servers, racks, etc.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalency certificate
2+ years of experience performing manual electronic tasks such as soldering, insulation and wiring, splicing, fiber optic fusion splicing, and/or component selection
PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
Associate degree in a mechanical, electrical or computer field
Solid foundation with streaming low latency live video
2+ years of experience working with a camera management system
Experience with Windows Server 2003, 2008 R2 and Windows 10
Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
Experience with high volume, highly available systems
Knowledgeable in information technology systems, including PC-based computers, data servers, and networking
Experience with digital video systems: still cameras, arrays of networked video cameras, high speed video cameras, infra-red cameras
Communication skills for relaying data (verbally and in-writing) between other employees and customers
A strong passion for space exploration
AutoCAD experience
Corning fiber installation (CFI) certification
Fiber optics designer (FOD) certification
Corning fiber designer (CFD) certification
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Demonstrated ability to coordinate, create and drive projects to completion
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be willing to travel to other SpaceX locations (about 15% of the time)
Flight hardware is typically built in tight quarters and physical dexterity is required
Physical effort including sitting or standing for extended periods of time, lifting and carrying weight such as materials or equipment (up to 30 lbs.)
Work performed in an environment with exposure to fumes, odors and noise
Frequently required to work in extreme outdoor environments (heat, cold, rain)
Role may require extended hours, weekend work and shift schedules, that vary depending on site operational needs; flexibility required
