Overview:
The Wardrobe Supervisor oversees and develops a running plan for the Wardrobe Assistant and run crew on every production and maintains Costume stock and Wardrobe Inventories throughout the year.
Responsibilities:
Regularly meets with the Costume Shop Supervisor and Office Business Manager to devise a time line for labor and budgets on every production.
Determines Wardrobe crew needs and orchestrates schedules, reports these to Costume Shop Supervisor. Hires per diem staff and Work Study students as needed.
Supervises Wardrobe Assistant and the Wardrobe crew, including Work-Study students and Costume Shop Apprentices throughout the production process.
Monitors all rehearsal reports. Supervises rehearsal costume items prepared by Costume Apprentice. Attends rehearsals, staff, and shop, production and Wardrobe meetings as needed.
Supervises and prepares all lists, plots and run sheets for each production.
Coordinates, organizes and tracks all costumes for work requests for all performance divisions and special events with the Wardrobe Assistant.
Inventories, organizes and maintains all road boxes, locks and storage areas.
Ensures all costume items and road boxes are properly labeled.
Speaks with students from Opera, Drama and Dance before any performance on proper costume and wardrobe protocol and professional collaboration with the Wardrobe crew.
Supervises and provides prep work (laundering, pressing and steaming) before every dress rehearsal and performance
Coordinates all dry-cleaning and maintenance of all costumes throughout and post production.
Tracks all rental items, ensuring their restoration and return in a timely manner.
Supervises the restock of all costumes to storage spaces with the support of Wardrobe Assistant and Costume Apprentices.
Coordinates the inventory and restocking of all wardrobe supplies.
Maintains the laundry area including washing machines and dryers.
Facilitates all wardrobe needs for special events including galas, commencement and graduation.
Receives donations as needed.
Coordinates any stock rentals, particularly of repertory dance. Fields all stock rental requests. Fulfillment is discretionary.
Coordinates with the Business Office Manager and Costume Shop Supervisor the assurance of safe working conditions. Jointly maintains and updates current safety programs such as the Production Safety Committee, shop safety board, MSDS and the First Aid Kit.
Coordinates incidents reports with Business Office Manager and Costume Shop Supervisor as needed.
Supervises and fulfills maintenance duties on a daily, weekly, and yearly basis in the costume shop and storage areas including dry cleaning racks and laundry/craft room.
Qualifications and Skills:
Required:
Two years experience in a professional costume shop.
Previous experience working on wardrobe crews.
Strong knowledge of costume history, period and sizing.
Computer literacy including Excel, Word and Outlook.
Ability to maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
Strong communication skills.
Ability to multitask.
Ability to work nights and weekends.
Preferred:
Previous experience running wardrobe crews
Ability to manage up to 10 wardrobe crew and work study on large productions
Experience working on drama, opera, and dance productions.
Basic machine and hand sewing skills.
Experience working in an educational institution.
Experience in the training of staff, freelancers, work study and apprentices.
