Manages the development of Innovation, Cost Savings, Quality Improvements, and Brand Maintenance Projects that will facilitate the growth of sales and profits of B&G. Thought leader and expert in food science, product and process development. Expertise in oil and cost savings is preferred.
Responsibilities:
Manages development of prototypes, evaluation of ingredients, optimization and cost reduction of formulas. Manages project from scoping through commercialization using Stage Gate process and prioritization. Makes well-reasoned trade-offs between timelines, resources and overall business needs. Leads and manages multiple projects simultaneously. Provides technical leadership in cross functions teams. As well as managing projects and team, some hands-on development and lab time required.
Manages product development of external resources such as suppliers, co-packers and consultants.
Researches new ingredients, technologies, and products. Leverages shelf life testing and sensory to provide recommendations to the broader team.
Plan and track project timelines; Communicates project progress to upper management and recommends the addition, expansion or termination of project work.
Interacts with Process authorities and QA to consider food safety, processing and associated regulations.
Work closely with Quality and Supply Chain Partners on maintaining and updating current production specs as well as generate specs for new product to ensure complete and accurate documentation.
Business Partner with other functions in a team environment to create collaborative partnerships.
Position responsible for leading R&D portion of critical cross company initiatives including Innovation Day, Acquisition integrations, and Cost Savings
Acts as senior functional R&D leader to manage lab facilities, product handling, and training requirements.
Experience, Skills, Education:
Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree or MBA preferred
10 years of product development experience in a consumer product goods company.
Knowledge of food quality and food safety systems; 21CFR, SQF, HACCO, FSMA.
Strong working knowledge of food processing, ingredient interactions and scale up.
Microsoft Office Suite experience required.
ERP and PLM systems experience preferred.
Proven ability to strategize and design a testing methodology.
Ability to apply knowledge of ingredient functionality and formulation balance to new products concepts in product areas.
Able to Lead an R&D Team as a Player Coach.
Strong communication, influencing and conflict management skills.
Demonstrated ability to facilitate work in a team environment.
Build and maintain collaborative partnerships across the organization.
Strategic and creative thinking to help identify and develop new product ideas.
Oil and Cost Savings experience preferred.
