KPMG is currently seeking an Assistant General Counsel to join KPMG International's (KPMGI) legal team (Senior Legal Advisor in the International Office of General Counsel (IOGC)).


Responsibilities:


+ Address privacy and information security issues in procurement and alliance contracts in creative and business-centric ways

+ Stay updated on the latest legal and regulatory developments in privacy and data security laws (such as GDPR and the Data Protection Act (UK)); advise on the impact of these laws and regulations, and work with other teams in KPMGI and member firms to ensure KPMG's ongoing compliance with such laws

+ Negotiate, draft, review, interpret, amend, and update a range of data protection and privacy terms in procurement, network, and alliance agreements (we anticipate that the successful candidate will spend approximately 50% of their time focused on contract related efforts)

+ Support network initiatives focused on data privacy and information protection which will likely include collaborating with other member firm OGCs and privacy professionals in the KPMG global organization

+ Perform privacy reviews of both KPMG and third-party technology solutions and privacy policies and statements

+ Train and educate on legal risks related to non-compliance with data privacy and information protection laws and regulations


Qualifications:


+ Minimum five years of experience (i) negotiating, drafting, interpreting, and reviewing data privacy and security related documents, and (ii) in the areas of data privacy and information protection law, with significant experience advising on laws and regulations across multiple jurisdictions which has been gained primarily by advising on business transactions

+ Juris Doctor degree from accredited college/university (or equivalent if gained outside of the United States) and admitted to the New York Bar with current registration in good standing (preferred) or admitted to a state bar with an ability to register as in-house counsel with the New York Bar within a reasonable period after hire; one or more certifications from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) and/or International Information Systems Security Certifications Consortium (or similar equivalent) preferred

+ Demonstrable knowledge of the core concepts of information security and the ability to quickly understand how these relate to the data privacy aspects of KPMG's services and business

+ Experience (i) working as part of a legal team (either at a reputable law firm or at an equivalent position in-house) on complex cross-border commercial privacy and information security matters, and (ii) instructing and managing external counsel

+ Able to advise on, and drive forward the implementation of, template revisions with an international/cross-border dimension

+ Understands how to balance the needs, demands and requirements of a global business with legal risks and protections; must be self-motivated and able to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume legal department with many different stakeholders worldwide; an ability to foster a collaborative and inclusive environment amongst other KPMG professionals; cultural sensitivity required to engage with people at all levels and with diverse backgrounds
