This is a unique opportunity to join the Energy & Propulsion Technology Capability Team within Boeing Research & Technology (BR&T) to design and develop sustainable power systems architectures for future aerospace platforms.
We are currently looking for an **Associate Mechanical Systems Design and Analysis Engineer** to support our Energy & Propulsion Technology Team in one of two locations: **Berkeley, Missouri** or **Huntington Beach, California** .
In this position, your responsibilities will focus on technology development, from mechanical and electrical subsystem architecture definition to component and subsystem integration and testing including environmental control systems (ECS) and thermal management system engineering, design and analysis. Subsystem architecture definition for next generation platforms include electric motors and generators, gearboxes, and combinations of hydraulic and electric actuation systems and ECS. This responsibility will also include supporting component and subsystem tests within BR&Ts Facility for Integration and Research of Subsystems Technologies (FIRST) lab.
Support for Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) and Boeing Commercial Airplane (BCA) programs is also a key responsibility for this position.
**Position Responsibilities:**
+ Supports the development and documentation of mechanical and fluid system and thermal environment
+ Supports the development, maintenance or modification of system designs/proposals to provide design documentation and high-level requirements to downstream users/customers
+ Performs detail design development and modification of mechanical and fluid system installations
+ Performs spatial integration at system or component level and modification of mechanisms/landing gear/ordinance systems
+ Assists in preparing technical documents for mechanical components and systems
+ Assists in supporting proposal preparation and new business development efforts
+ Works under general supervision
**This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate may be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.** This role is a combination of remote and onsite work.
**This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.** **An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance Post-Start is required.**
**Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):**
+ Bachelor, Master, or doctorate degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry
+ Experience working in a laboratory test environment
+ Experience with parts/assembly design, electro-mechanical design and/or machine controls
+ Mechanical and assembly integration experience
**Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):**
+ Experience with Gearbox, Electric Motor/Generator, and Actuator Development and Testing
+ Experience developing mechanical system architectures, such as landing gear and flight control actuation
+ Experience writing component and subsystem specifications and statements of work
+ Technical interchange and oversight of suppliers developing mechanical systems hardware
+ Leading integration and test efforts of complex mechanical and electrical subsystems
+ Develop laboratory schematics and select instrumentation and components for gearbox, electric motor/generator, and actuator tests
+ Programming experience in C# or MATLAB/Simulink
**Typical Education/Experience:**
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
