The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for a part-time Continuing Education Coordinator.

The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, ranked #5 by US News & World Report and among the top-ranked programs nationwide for nearly 25 years, is a complex academic and clinical department in the University of Washington School of Medicine and part of UW Medicine.

Affiliated Hospitals include UW Medical Center - Montlake, UW Medical Center Northwest, Harborview Medical Center, Veterans Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System, and Seattle Childrens. We provide inpatient rehabilitation care at the University of Washington Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, Seattle Childrens, and the VA. In addition, we have several outpatient clinics located throughout the region.

This Continuing Education Coordinator works with the Division of Prosthetics and Orthotics, supporting the Masters of Prosthetics and Orthotics program.
This position provides administrative, operational and technical support to the Prosthetics & Orthotics program. They help manage labs and inventory while assisting faculty who teach lab-based Prosthetics & Orthotics courses. Experience as a P & O technician is needed to understand the needs of the P & O program, the terminology used to describe P & O specific materials and components, and to assist with supervision of P & O lab skills and fabrication work.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintain inventory of Lab Materials (45%)
Track and maintain inventory in orderly condition by reviewing inventory each quarter and restocking needed supplies for the next quarter. Inventory should be organized and store in carts/cupboards to facilitate faculty and student use.
Maintain list of chemicals, MSD sheets
Maintain lab manual
Order materials and components

Assist with Class Preparation (43%)
Prepare materials, components, and tools for classes. As directed by each instructor and for each class or project, gather from storage the required materials (e.g., required quantities of plastic, leather, Velcro, etc.), components (e.g., required knees, feet, pylons, etc.) and tools (e.g., required alignment jigs, drills, pneumatic punch) and place them on carts or in the specified labs or classrooms.
Help with setting rooms/labs up for classes and cleaning rooms/labs after classes

Maintain orderly lab/room space (10%)
Break down projects when completed
Return unused materials and supplies to stock after classes
Perform routine equipment maintenance
Organize and coordinate repairs to equipment and lab spaces
Supervise and assist students for end of quarter cleaning and organization.
- At the end of each quarter, students are required to ensure that the labs and classrooms are clean and organized.
- This position will supervise students as they clean and return tools to storage, remove plaster from all tools and surfaces, clean sinks, wipe down and oil benchtops, clean plaster buckets, refill plaster and sand bins, sort and store pipes, sweep/vacuum floors, remove all temporary markings (marker pen and tape) from alignment fixtures and vacuum -pulling stands, stack chairs/stools/exam benches to facilitate floor polishing by custodial staff.

Other duties as assigned (2%)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Masters Degree in mechanical engineering
One year of experience as a Prosthetic/Orthotic technician or workshop/mechanic experience and skills
Or six years of equivalent professional experience as a Prosthetic/Orthotic technician or workshop/mechanic experience.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

DESIRED:

Associates Degree or Certificate as a Prosthetic/Orthotic technician
