Job Summary - The Data Architect will be responsible for planning, designing, and maintaining the architecture, structures, models, security and standards for various data integration & data warehouse projects at Owens & Minor. Collaborates with Data Scientists and Data Engineers to ensure new product features and subject areas are designed and modelled to integrate with existing structures and can provide a consistent view across diverse data sources. Enhances Business Intelligence, Operational Intelligence, and Product Analytics aspects of products through clear visualization of accurate data. Develops and maintains documentation sets for the data architecture, data flow, and data models of the data warehouse that are appropriate for various audiences.

Core Responsibilities -

  • Develops and delivers long-term strategic goals for the companys data architecture vision and standards.

  • Creates solutions to achieve long-term objectives and an overall data management roadmap.

  • Establishes processes for governing the identification, collection, and use of metadata.

  • Establishes methods and procedures for tracking data quality, completeness, redundancy and security.

  • Conducts data capacity planning, life cycle, duration, usage requirements and feasibility studies.

  • Works with Cloud Infrastructure Architects to create strategies and plans for data security, backup, disaster recovery, business continuity, and archiving

  • Ensures Data strategies and architectures remain in compliance with standards.

  • Gathers feature requirements and write solution proposal documentation via consultation with business stakeholders.

  • Works with Product teams to create data models prior to product development.

  • Analyzes performance metrics and creates proposals related to continuous improvement.

  • Provides resolution to an extensive range of complicated data pipeline related challenges (both proactively and as issues arise).

  • Provides thought leadership to fellow team members across business and technical project dimensions while solving complex business requirements.

  • Demonstrates forward thinking on organizational direction, and how technology can support these efforts.

  • Provides direction on adoption of Cloud Data technologies and industry best practices in the field of data warehouse/data lake architecture and modelling.

  • Advocates and defines a data architecture vision from a strategic perspective (internal/external platforms, tools, systems, etc.).

  • Acts as coach and mentor to team members and technical staff on assigned project tasks.

Qualifying Experience -

  • Bachelors Degree, preferably in related field (Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Data Analytics, Information Security)

  • 7 or more years of relevant experience (Data Engineering/Science, database management, technical architecture, network management, application development, middleware, etc.)

  • 5 or years experience working as a Data Architect, Data Engineer or Data Scientist in Data warehouse, ETL, BI, etc. projects

  • Leadership role on at least two separate Data Warehouse/Data Lake implementations using diverse technology stacks

  • Experience with data security and data access controls and design

  • Experience with Azure data storage and management technologies

  • Experience with Agile software development frameworks

  • Data lake (data modelling, ELT using SQL, implementing complex stored Procedures, standard DWH and ETL concepts)

  • Data lake advanced concepts with understanding of how to use features (setting up resource monitors, RBAC controls, virtual warehouse sizing, query performance tuning, Zero copy clone, time travel)

  • Expertise in Azure Synapse
