Northern Trust is currently looking for a Cloud Data Architect to join our Business Services Architecture team. This role provides technology leadership in driving digital transformation initiatives in public cloud. Guides the development, specification and communication of application or infrastructure architectures used by multiple business or application systems. Provides extensive, in-depth, technical consultation to the clients, partners, and IT Management to develop plans and directions to assure the integration of corporate business area requirements.
This technology leader will bring in the experience of cloud based data engineering solutions (Azure/AWS/Snowflake), automation and best practices in building, maintaining, and enhancing state of the art data Architectures, Platforms and Services:
Promotes sharing of expertise through consulting, presentations, and documentations, etc.
Translates business needs into technical capabilities within a comprehensive overall solution.
Operates independently with minimal guidance, handling numerous analysis and design priorities without losing sight of strategic context.
Displays a balanced, cross-functional perspective, liaising with the business to help improve efficiency, effectiveness and productivity
Provides leadership and guidance to agile engineering teams, fostering an environment that encourages employee participation, teamwork, and communication.
Partners with technology and business teams to define and onboard Data products into the enterprise Data Mesh Platform.
Creates architectural patterns to demonstrate compliance with Control Standards for all aspects of data architecture (safe handling of sensitive data in motion and in storage).
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline and experience in information system architecture methodologies, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
10+ years of strong hands-on software engineering experience building large-scale systems and platforms.
Detailed understanding of Data architectures involving data integration, transformation, data quality and warehousing.
Good understanding of Data Lake, Delta lake, Data Mesh concepts and architectures.
Conversant in multiple data integration patterns, frameworks and tools such as: ETL, ELT, Kafka, Apache Spark, Databricks, Master Data Management, Reference Data Management, Azure Synapse, Azure Analytics Services, ADLS, Snowflake etc.
Experience with RDBMS, no-sql and graph databases such as SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, MongoDB, Neo4J etc.
Expert understanding of public cloud services, experience with Azure or AWS.
Experience in containers/Kubernetes ecosystem, Pivotal Cloud Foundry or similar technologies.
Experience and understanding of Agile and DevOps methodologies and familiar with tools like JIRA, Confluence, Jenkins, Git and Azure DevOps.
Awareness of security frameworks and tools such as SSO, SAML, OAuth, JWT, Okta and Ping.
Knowledge of IaC and automation tools such as Terraform.
Good programming experience in Python, SQL and familiarity with Microservices, DDD and Enterprise API architecture patterns.
Excellent consultative and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with client, partner, and IT management and staff.
Azure certification is a plus.
Financial Services experience is a plus.
