Job Description

State Streets Automation and Artificial Intelligence is a strategic global team. It is formed under direction of management committee of the company. It has the mission to explore, enable and exploit artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision and cognitive computing at scale for countless use cases across Global Delivery, Global Advisors, Global Markets, and Global Exchange business lines. The team has a mixed of intelligence technology, quantitative modeling, data science, financial engineering, and software engineering capabilities. The team has built solutions for investment and risk management related domains such as market movement, sentiment analysis, valuation, investment strategy, fund innovation as well as operational and client experience related use cases. This team will engage the business to explore, prototype, and solution use cases while also building out a portfolio of foundational micro services in the State Streets hybrid cloud.

Who we are looking for:

In your role as Data Scientist & Cognitive Software Engineer, you will work with other Artificial Intelligence (AI) team members throughthe phases of use-case data exploration and prototyping to the design, implementation and deployment of the resulting AI services supporting use-cases.

What you will be responsible for

As a Data Scientist & Cognitive Software Engineer you will


  • Work with a team of data scientists, machine learning engineers, software engineers and QA engineers.

  • Perform data collection, preprocessing, feature engineering, data visualization and analysis.

  • Build automation of data collection and preprocessing.

  • Build models to address business problems.

  • Engage with lines of business, users and analysts to explore and prototype opportunities and use-cases exploiting data and the application of cognitive and machine learning technologies.

  • Design, develop, test and support Cognitive microservices to operationalize and productize deployment of resulting models and cognitive solutions.

What we value

These skills will help you succeed in this role:

  • Modern, object-oriented or functional programming experience, (Java, C++, Python, Scala, SQL, R)

  • Data Science and Machine Learning Frameworks (R, Apache Spark / MLlib, TensorFlow, Scikit-learn, etc)

  • Natural Language Processing (NLTK, CoreNLP, Gensim, Spacy, etc..)

  • Experience with Big-Data technologies and cloud (AWS, other)

  • Linux / Bash scripting

  • Relational databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, etc.)

  • Agile development methodology

  • CI/CD Development environments and tools (GIT, Maven, Jenkins, etc)

  • RESTful Microservice APIs

  • Strong analytical skills. Previous experience or education focused on statistics or data science is valuable.

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in computer science or related degree.

  • At least 1 year of experience though internships or field related work experience.

  • Experience in working on an Open Source project a plus but not required.
