**Job Description Summary**

The Lead Mechanical Sustaining Engineer reports to the Sustaining Engineering Manager. In this capacity, you provide front line sustaining support to manufacturing and end customers in resolving product related issues.



As a lead ME, you will support life cycle requirements capture; design to cost, schedule commitment, product designs, analyses, and tests to meet product performance for use in electronic power conversion products (including rapid prototyping and manufacturing).



**Job Description**



Apply advanced engineering concepts and technical requirements such as mechanical design, thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid-mechanics, vibration, shock, and physical properties data into analyzing product designs and requirements to solve technical issues.



Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements



Mentor technicians and designers/engineers in design methods and layouts



Generate / approve engineering changes to designs



Support design engineers in proposal development efforts, prototype designs, and design-to-cost solutions for complex electro-mechanical systems and components



Create definitions of parts, modules, and assemblies in the form of 2D cross sections, 3D models, tolerance stack-ups, and various electronic data formats to support analysis, manufacturing, assembly, tooling, and inspection



Support designers in the creation and modifying of CAD models using SolidEdge and NX, check, validate, and issue models and associated drawings



Derive electronic data models and use engineering analysis tools as needed using finite element and finite difference methods (ANSYS, CFDesign, and KCR Thermal)



Monitor the work of technicians, use gauges in driving quality inspections, and use instrumentation for testing.



Determine dimensional constraints and geometric tolerances required for proper clearances and fits while designing for manufacturing and assembly.



Support global outsourcing initiatives by preparing and sending work packages to low cost suppliers, including defining the work scope, estimating hours and due dates, monitoring progress, and serving as a technical resource through periodic communication with suppliers



Work within the guidelines of applicable GE Policies & Procedures, Engineering Standards, Product Definition Operating Procedures, Specifications, Government and Commercial Standards, and special security requirements



Evaluate and influence new and revised Processes, Engineering Standards and Product Definition Operating Procedures



Ensure all interface characteristics between components are established and agreed upon by Designers and Engineers of mating parts



Concurrently, manage multiple projects monitoring progress and quality and ensure schedule, cost and performance requirements are met



Work as one team with Pompano Beach and Long Island engineering teams and anticipate 10% travel time to vendors and other GE sites.
