Research and Development (R&D) Tax Credit

We are currently looking forsoftware engineers to join the growingR&D Tax Services team at Alvarez & Marsal Taxand. The ideal candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong relevant technical industry experience, coupled with strong personal management and ability to works as a team to solve problems

A&M Taxand's specialist U.K. R&D team consists of experienced tax professionals and R&D engineers who can advise companies on the design, implementation and ongoing maintenance of methodologies to support their R&D claims. The team deals primarily with R&D claims for large companies, whether foreign-owned, privately held or listed groups.

We are expanding the tax practice rapidly at all levels and specifically looking to recruit a Manger into the R&D team to assist with the technological aspects of R&D claims - focused on tech-based sectors.

Responsibilities:

The team assists clients in preparing government incentive claims, primarily R&D Expenditure Credits for large companies and enhanced tax relief for SMEs. Project teams are generally multidisciplinary, with you as an experienced software engineer applying your knowledge and experience to help identify eligible activities, while working closely with tax/costing specialists to collate the qualifying costs associated with the clients' R&D activities.

You will have responsibility for:

  • Working with the clients' staff to identify and describe R&D activities.

  • Working with tax and finance colleagues to ensure that eligible projects match the qualifying costs.

  • Drafting detailed technical descriptions to support the R&D projects included in the claims.

  • Preparing HMRC submission documents and other supplementary documents supporting the R&D claims.

  • Preparing responses to HMRC enquiries.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2 years industry experience in the tech sector.

  • Strong academic background, minimum 2.1 Degree or equivalent.

  • Knowledge of the R&D taxrelief regime, especially R&D Expenditure Credits.

Personal qualities:

  • Excellent communication skills for both internal and external discussions.

  • Commitment to high quality written output to develop lasting client relationships.

  • You will be working concurrently on several projects, so managing your workload will be important.
