Strategic Silicon Solutions (S3) System Engineering Manager



The AMD Strategic Silicon Solutions (S3) System Engineering team is looking for a passionate, dedicated, and creative leader who will be responsible for managing, leading, and developing the joint Debug and Platform Emulation system engineering teams. Your team is responsible for pre-silicon functional validation, as well as end-to-end debug of all facets of key products in the S3 pipeline. Products have previously included the Valve Steam Deck, Sony PlayStation 5, and Microsoft Xbox One Series X/S game consoles. The team's efforts span pre- and post-silicon phases, and engage with hardware, software, design, production, systems, and diagnostic teams to ensure silicon success and rapid validation and enablement of SCBU products.


As the manager of an IP systems engineering team, you will lead a team that drives and enhances AMDs abilities to deliver industry leading technologies to customers. You will shape the course of the team's development while achieving AMD's broader goals. Within the team, you will provide opportunities for your engineers to develop technical depth, facilitate their career development, and encourage continuous technical innovation.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a distributed team of 9 engineers, with special attention on developing their careers by mentoring and providing technical guidance

    1. Driving day-to-day team operations, including the enablement and validation of debug and emulation tasks, design for debug and test principles, and a focused effort on system debug of video, display, audio, ISP, data transfer, virtualization, multimedia, graphics, and a plethora of other technologies on S3 products

    2. Participate in and implement organizational strategy such as future program planning and productivity improvements

    3. Leading a team culture of identifying, describing, and implementing changes to validation methodologies to increase efficiency and product quality

    4. Establishing and maintaining a team standard of documenting and evangelizing methodology to the wider organization

    5. Providing broad system knowledge and assist driving technical issues to resolution

    6. Enhance collaboration across teams inside and outside the S3 organization


Requirements:

  • Minimum 8+ years of experience in engineering management and technical leadership experience in HW and FW development for SoCs, with a focus on debug, pre-silicon activities, design for debug considerations, and silicon architecture test and debug methodologies

    1. Project management experience working directly with cross-functional teams and multiple stakeholders

    2. Experience in graphics, core, memory, multimedia, display, and virtualization technologies

    3. Experience generating process improvement concepts and driving execution

    4. Demonstrated success in working across geographies and cross functional teams

    5. Strong analytical/problem solving skills and pronounced attention to detail, including the ability to deep dive when necessary

    6. Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to connect with a variety of engineering fields and management

    7. Excel in a dynamic team working environment

    8. Self-starter, strong collaborator, and able to independently drive tasks to completion, drive highly ambiguous tasks


Assets:

  • Recent experience in the semiconductor industry blending engineering expertise with team leadership

    1. Experience with automation and validation methodologies

    2. Experience with remote system management strategies and methodologies to enable widescale remote engineering work

    3. Experience with FPGA and SoC emulation, concepts, strategies, considerations, and infrastructure

    4. Broad knowledge of System Architectures and Implementations, debug methodologies, DFD and DFT strategies and execution



Academic Credentials:

  • BS/MS Engineering or suitable equivalent
