Job Summary

The Electrical Engineer Intern will primarily focus on the mine's power distribution infrastructure and expansions, but may also provide some engineering support to the electrical department and various mining equipment (Shovels, Draglines, Trucks and Plant).

Job Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Visibly support and champion Peabody's Mission and Values.

  • Act in accordance with and adhere to Safety as a Way of Life Management System.

  • Assist in configuring and auditing mine site feeder and motor protection relays.

  • Assist with manage power coordination studies relating to mine site power distribution.

  • Assist with recording and analyzing equipment's electrical data and recommending corrective action to prevent premature equipment failure, while maximize equipment performance.

  • Prepare reports that support the department goals as they relate to equipment life, performance, and costs.

  • Assist in root cause analysis (RCA).

  • Project management to include areas of concern such as energy exposure studies.

  • Conduct safety observations and participate in safety audits.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Company.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled in bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.

  • General understanding of power distribution systems.

  • Ability to collaborate with multiple departments and people.

  • Ability to use AutoCad Electrical.

  • General understanding of NFPA 70 National Electrical Code and 70E Arc Flash regulations.

Physical Requirements

SURFACE ENVIRONMENT

  • Must have the ability to stand for up to 4 hours per shift

  • Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles

  • Must have the ability to work from elevated positions, walk/climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on/off equipment and ladders

  • Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA

  • Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms/legs and good hand to eye coordination

  • Must have the ability to lift/raise 10 - 50 lbs. without mechanical assistance frequently during the work shift

  • Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light/dark, in and around artificial light, and in a confined work area

  • Must have the ability to work various shifts (required shifts include days, evening and nights, with rotating schedules, weekends and holidays)
