The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences (PBSCI) within the UW School of Medicine is the third largest clinical department with 285 full-time faculty members, 280 clinical faculty members, and over 300 staff. Department faculty provide clinical services in 5 hospitals, 14 primary care locations, and several outpatient sites in addition to telepsychiatry consultations to more than 150 clinics in Washington and beyond. As the only academic psychiatry department serving the five state WWAMI region (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, Idaho), the Departments highly competitive residency training program is largely responsible for developing the mental health workforce in the Pacific Northwest. The Departments robust research portfolio totals $35 million in grants and contracts per year for projects ranging from clinical neurosciences to treatment development to health policy and population health. The Department is recognized as an international leader in developing, testing, and implementing Collaborative Care, an integrated care model increasingly seen as a solution for population-based mental health care. Other areas of excellence include Addictions, Autism, High Risk Youth, Neurosciences, and Trauma, and the Department is developing innovative new programs in Technology and Mental Health, Global Mental Health, Maternal and Child Mental Health, and Targeted Intervention Development.

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences (PBSCI) has an exciting opportunity for a Non-Permanent Outreach Director of our telepsychiatry programs.

This position is responsible for the strategic direction and day-to-day operations of marketing our telepsychiatry programs (Psychiatry Consultation Line & Mental Health CareConnect). This is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Patient and Family Experience. This Non-Permanent Project position may be extended.

The Outreach Director will be expected to juggle multiple responsibilities, have a high attention to detail, work effectively as part of a team, and be able to prioritize work. They will need to build relationships across multiple units and projects, serve as a source of expert advice, and hire and manage the work of outside consultants and vendors. The work of this position will represent the department and as such must be accurate, timely and error-free.

This position is responsible for implementing a comprehensive communication strategy for a growing and highly visible, state-wide telepsychiatry program. Their success will significantly affect the reputation of the department, School of Medicine and UW.

Responsibilities:

Marketing & outreach for telepsychiatry programs (85%)
75% - Oversee an outreach strategy for the state-funded Psychiatry Consultation Line (PCL) with an annual marketing budget of $200,000+, including the development, production and dissemination of websites, newsletters, social media posts, videos, marketing collateral, welcome packets and advertisements. Manage and staff exhibit booths and door-to-door marketing across the state. Manage a $50k contract for digital engagement with Doximity. Develop and pursue new relationships and opportunities to market the consult line.
10% - Oversee an outreach strategy for Mental Health CareConnect (MHCC), a telepsychiatry program for Boeing employees, including the development, production and dissemination of eblasts, videos, postcards, care packages and webinars.

Special projects (10%)
Contribute to outreach and marketing efforts of emerging department initiatives such as the Behavioral Health Support Specialist program.

Other (5%)
Help with office duties such as managing printing requests and purchasing equipment
Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and strategic plans of the department


Minimum Qualifications:

-Bachelors Degree in Communication, Journalism, or Marketing
-Two years of experience in marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field.

-Experience working in an academic medical setting or academic setting.
-Experience writing about research, science, health and/or mental health.
-Superior writing and editing skills for a broad spectrum of communication channels. Excellent proofreading and editing abilities. Attention to detail is a must.
-Demonstrated ability to take initiative, set and change priorities, solve problems, handle multiple projects, and exercise good judgment.
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships.
-Ability to learn and suggest new communications and marketing tools and an ability to stay up-to-date on their continued evolution.
-Proficiency with PC platform; working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
-Proficient with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, In-Design and Premiere Pro) or ability and willingness to learn.
-Desire to support the departments mission of improving the health of the public.

Desired Qualifications:

-Experience working in a complex organization.
-Experience with basic graphic design work for print, web and email.
-Familiarity with Google Analytics, SEO, html and social media.
