**Job Description Summary**

As a Post Doctoral Researcher, you will work with GE Research, GE Business, and external customers to define, build, and execute strategic research and development programs focused in Robotics and Autonomous Systems aligned with GEs Digital Industrial vision.

**Essential Responsibilities**



+ Develop new technology concepts with strategic impact focused in robotics and autonomy, including design, analysis, integration and testing of electromechanical systems, mechanical, and fluidic (pneumatic/hydraulic) systems, motion planning, perception, manipulation, and human-robot interaction.

+ Lead projects, proposals, relationship building, and the development of new autonomous and robotic systems technology.

+ Lead design, selection, analysis, system integration/packaging and testing of electromechanical components and systems, including sensors, actuators, controllers, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, and electromechanical systems, including conceptual design, detailed design, testing, validation, and product implementation.

+ Actively participate in design, architecture, and development efforts.

+ Engage with internal and external thought leaders across the robotics technology stack to drive new concepts and applications.



**Qualifications/Requirements**



+ PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline with experience in design and development of robotic systems or Master's Degree with at least 3 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline with experience in design and development of robotic systems or Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline with experience in design and development of robotic systems

+ Strong execution track record

+ Significant experience in electro-mechanical design, system integration, testing and troubleshooting, and mechanism design, including design, selection and integration of actuators, sensors and controllers.

+ Significant experience working with and building soft robotic systems and actuators.

+ Significant experience in mechanical design in SolidWorks

+ Significant experience in integrating mechanical, electrical, and software components into reliable working systems while satisfying tight product design and manufacturing constraints.

+ Possess superior problem-solving skills and independent decision-making abilities, all while operating in an extremely demanding, fast-paced team setting.

+ Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.

+ Must be 18 years or older.

+ Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals at the Masters or Bachelors level for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

**Desired Characteristics**



+ Experience working in an industrial or defense domain.

+ Experience in simulation of mechanisms and electromechanical systems.

+ Proficiency in building system models using tools such as Simscape, Adams, MapleSim.

+ Experience in the use of smart structures and materials such as shape memory alloys, electroactive polymers, electro- and magnetorheological fluids, etc. for developing novel actuators and sensors.

+ Experience in path/motion planning, kinematic and dynamic modeling of robots, perception, graphical simulation, and GUIs.

+ Experience programming in C/C++/Python.

+ Experience with the Robot Operating System (ROS).

+ Experience with computer vision, and machine learning.

+ Demonstrated ability to convert high-level customer needs into a technical development strategy.

+ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

+ Self-motivated, innovative, willing to pursue new technical areas and capable of working independently.
