General Summary
GTI Energy, the nations leading research, development, deployment, and training organization serving energy markets, has an opportunity for a Principal Engineer - Electrical in our Energy Delivery research group. The qualified candidate will perform research and development activities in collaboration with other engineers and scientists, focused on applying engineering practices to the development and deployment of electronic technology.
Work Location
The position will be based in the Des Plaines, Illinois area, but the candidate must also be able to work remotely to meet all federal, state, local, and company COVID guidelines. While local candidates are preferred, GTI provides relocation assistance for the right candidate.
Primary Responsibilities
This position is within a group of engineers and scientists that bring technology solutions to gas and energy utility companies. The candidate must be able to apply technical theory and engineering to the design, development, and deployment of electronic technologies. The candidate must be able to work within the structure of an overall project team while being able to work independently and set direction for project teams. Position responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Design and assist in the construction of technology prototypes
Research and identify components that match design specifications
Perform construction, programming, and testing of sub-systems or modules
Document work in written and graphical formats
Potential for travel for industry events, customer site visits, field demonstrations or testing
Other duties as assigned
Required Technical Skills
Embedded C/C++ firmware development with STM32 or other ARM families
Experience with analytical tools such as MATLAB, R, or Python
Experience with rapid prototyping tools such as Node Red or Micropython
Familiarity with IoT communication protocols such as LoRa, LTE, WiFi, BLE
Familiarity with cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, Losant, ThingsBoard
Preferred Technical Skills
Familiarity with National Instruments LabVIEW tools
Printed circuit board layout with Eagle or equivalent
Education and Experience
Bachelors or Masters degree in electrical engineering
7 10 years of relevant work experience
