Principal Associate, Commercial Policy & Innovation


Capital Ones Commercial Policy & Innovation (P&I) Team, housed within the Credit Risk and Analytics (CR&A) Division, is responsible for Risk Governance, Risk Appetite, Credit Risk Policy, and Assurance Exam Management activities for the Commercial Bank. The teams contribution is critical in providing a foundation for sound credit risk management practices, complying with internal policies and regulations and exhibiting the overall culture of Capital One.


The P&I team strives to continuously enhance the Credit policy framework including its underlying policies, approval processes, governance routines and compliance activities and is seeking a Principal Associate level associate with the right skill set and competencies to join the team.


P&I is seeking a Principal Associate with risk management experience. This person will work together with other members of a dynamic team to deliver a meaningful impact for CR&A and the Commercial Bank. This person will partner with associates across the Commercial Banking businesses and play an integral role within the P&I team, supporting efforts to streamline the credit risk policy framework and implement changes that are strategic and transformative for the firm. The role offers opportunity for significant professional growth and exposure across the Commercial Bank including the Business Lines and Risk Organization.


Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


+ Challenging the status quo to improve and enhance credit policy, understanding the objective for each policy matter and impact to business

+ Performing research on regulatory interpretation and leading industry practices relating to commercial lending practices

+ Formulating and implementing solutions, leveraging technology to enhance credit processes

+ Managing the credit authority initiation, review, and approval process, and contributing to efforts to automate the end-to-end process

+ Supporting management of the credit policy lifecycle and communicating changes to stakeholders

+ Drafting materials, developing communications and providing training related to change initiatives

+ Helping facilitate key governance forums where senior credit risk stakeholders review and opine on matters that impact the credit risk profile of the Commercial Bank


The Person


The P&I team plays a key role in the Commercial Risk Management organization, responsible for the credit risk parameters across our commercial businesses. The P&I Associate will help form a common credit culture and therefore, should possess the following core skills:


+ Strategic and analytic orientation

+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills

+ Highly collaborative orientation and strong team player

+ Ability to establish credibility, trust and support within all levels of the organization

+ Aptitude for synthesizing complex issues into a clear and concise summary

+ Proactive and results-oriented

+ Strong attention to detail


Basic Qualifications


+ Bachelors degree or Military experience

+ At least 2 years of experience in a risk management or policy role


Preferred Qualifications


+ At least 4 years of experience in a credit risk management role in a regulated financial institution
